He is a con man, a bigot, a liar, a misogynist, he is owned by Russia and Russian mobsters,
not that bright, a failure in just about every business he was part in and he is bat crap crazy
too.
WTF happened? That election was dirty as hell and both the media and the republicans
know that but stii Trump keeps driving all of us for that cliff. For the love of God can't
something be done?

(18,837 posts)Folks on DU may be getting sick of hearing about my sister, but she's a real-life case study of a rabid, dyed-in-the-wool, red hat-owning Trump supporter.
Much of that happened because she has one news source, Fox News.
She's also something of an intolerant bigot, so the idea of a big, beautiful wall that Mexico would pay for was pure catnip.
I lived in California for four decades. Since 2012 I have lived in Nevada, Texas, Colorado, and now South Carolina.
You SEE things when you get outside of California. A lot of things you would rather not see.
If you asked me "WTF happened" while I was still in California, my response would be "Yeah...WTF DID happen?"
But typing this response to you in South Carolina, my response is "most of my neighbors voted for Trump."
I can't explain how the disenfranchised and working poor felt that giving a prick like Paul Ryan the keys to the kingdom would improve their lot in life, other than the fact that Fox News told them it would.
I look at my sister and I look at my fellow South Carolinians and say "THEY made it happen."
But hey...it's all just locker room talk, right?

Maybe you can come down and give us all a little advice

(5,506 posts)w/it. All those NY media moguls have played the Rubes to the hilt. We are so far down the rabbit hole, I can hardly see daylight here in The South. Until we can age past the "Christian", racist, Norquist tax crowd, I don't see much hope. They have managed to keep all the Confederate mindsets in place for over 150 yrs. Life is slow here, so is change...

(17,301 posts)I'll see a clip of Drumpf on the news or catch part of an addressing he's giving on TV and I just shake my head. Celebrity? Sure, I get it. His brash personality and his wealth mean he's likely to be a prominent figure and The Apprentice/Celebrity Apprentice were actually good outlets for showcasing his entertainment value.
But leader of the free world? OMG, it's challenging to think of a worse fit!

terrorism to the country that funds and spreads it world wide in part by exporting

(5,506 posts)Began noticing it during the election lead-up. Became more obvious recently w/the flap over Lawrence O'D possibly not having his contract renewed. Have begun watching CNN except for TRMS & O'D.
Looks like THIS happened & everything changed when Andrew Lack took the reigns:

(61,692 posts)P. saw years ago that dft was a careless, crappy businessman. P sent in that female ex-KGB spy to ingratiate herself into dft's business, introduce him to oligarchs who overpaid for real estate, giving dft the "success" he thought he created. It's been a big suck-up game ever since.
I think dft knows, deep down, what could happen to him or his kids if he doesn't continue to play along. There are plenty of bodies in the ditch along the road he has taken.

(1,751 posts)Trumps election:
The press failed once again to do its job, seeking to normalize the election and Trump, obsessed with not appearing liberal.
Trump voters who voted for Trump knowing full-well that he was a con man, incompetent, and unfit to be president, but who voted for him nonetheless as a form of protest to exhibit their contempt for a political system they perceived to be broken.
And of course weak Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents who stayed home refusing to vote.
Needless to say there are many Trump voters who now have buyers remorse, and those who regret having not voted at all.

I guess we hang on as best we can and hope for a breakthrough. Perhaps in an unexpected way.
I'm half way to convinced that on 11/9 we entered an alternative reality.

(5,275 posts)The Electoral College, brainwashed people who have lost their capacity for critical thinking , and Russian interference produced this distressing result. Oh and CrossCheck plus easily hackable voting machines.
The key was about 20% of voters who would vote for Alex Jones if Fox News wanted them to, they are hopeless and not worth the effort.
If we get past this, and Dems ever control it all again, they need to institute reliable foolproof voting procedures monitored by the Swiss or another neutral observer....and jettison the Electoral College. That should keep any other Trump like bozo out of the White House.
