Does anyone know the answer to this? Why is the right opposed to globalization?

Honestly, when I think about it, if globalization lead to the elimination of all nations and we just became one citizenship of planet Earth, what would be the problem with that? Aren't we all in this together anyways?

Now maybe I'm naive and a lot of you oppose it as well and I don't know what I'm talking about. But I'm just trying to seek a greater understanding.

UPDATED TO ADD: So basically xenophobia?

are better than those other people, especially the brown ones with their funny clothes and weird-smelling food; and they don't even speak English, which as we all know is the language Jesus spoke. Globalism suggests that people from other countries are actually as good, capable and worthy as Americans, and we can't have that.

The tea baggers hate it because they perceive that it gives other countries (or the UN, or Sharia law) control over our country.

Social conservatives tend to follow a similar path that it gives up sovereignty and opens us up to godless laws about abortion, and women's rights, and gay rights, etc.

Economic conservatives DON'T oppose globalization at all. Of course, they want global "markets" for goods and capital. They don't want them to allow the free flow of LABOR. And they only want globalization among basically "free" markets (or at least those that don't like taxes but do like intellectual property rights).

Since the beginning of the nuclear age but especially after their crushing defeats in the 60's Republicans have the underlying prime focus of protecting racists and polluters. This is much easier to do the more local you keep things.

They don't want people to hear what the rest of the world thinks or is doing (the EU is rapidly going green) which is parallel to the abusive father shuttering his family away from the neighbors so they don't "get any of them craaazy ideas".

They have this idea that life in the US is better than in any other country in the world, and if we don't keep our guard up every second, we're going to be dragged down into horrors like peace, education, universal health care, paid parental leave etc. etc.

Ignorance is bliss; as someone said above, they've never been anywhere, and so the idea that we might actually benefit from working with other countries is unimaginable.

It is absurd that humanity, at this stage in the game, has borders, barriers, boundries and walls. We are one species... No other species has self-built walls constructed of the masonry of fear.

It is insane.

The Christian Right, however, believes all Kingdoms on earth are BS, only the Kingdom of God counts. Some of those Christian Republicans believe this gives them Jesus' blessing to do anything God has blessed them with a notion to do. Like oppress women, starve the poor, rape children, sell-out to Russia in order to screw an uppity woman presidential candidate, and lie under oath. Globalization? Do they pay good bribes? Jesus told me that was fine, for the glory of God amen.

I'm not kidding. They own Congress.

as a modern day policy, globalization is the coin of the realm. Its good for wealthy American business interests, maybe not so much for the manufacturing workers who have watched their jobs get handed off to cheap overseas competitors, but we all know who politicians listen to, yeah?

The right isn't really opposed to globalization or keen on returning to the (imaginary) halcyon days of isolationism and protectionism. Oh sure, within earshot of their ill-informed voting base, politicians give cheery lip service to the notion that they are against the evils of globalization, but their actual legislative deeds paint a different picture. When it comes to fundraising to advance their own careers those same politicians are promising their wealth corporate paymasters an ever easier road to unlimited profits by expanding global business by ripping off American citizens.

While globalization sounds good. We all inhabit the same planet and citizens of the world has a nice ring to it. Unfortunately, many of the poorer countries cannot, or will not, pay a decent wage and maintain a standard of living that is good for all its citizens. Of course, we help foster this kind of inequality when our corporations take advantage of a workforce that does not pay them enough to live on.

If we really want to be citizens of the world, we should stop taking advantage of the slave labor that produces cheap goods that we in the west have become accustomed to. As global citizens, we should stop using dollar stores and other discount shops that we know are exploiting their workers. How can we buy anything for a dollar without knowing that it came from a underpaid person living in poverty.

If we make the world a better place for the citizens who now live in poverty, they will not see the need to risk their lives trying to get to a better place. The sad fact is that the west cannot absorb the millions of people looking for a better life and we should do what it takes to make them want to stay home and live a decent life.
