Senate Republicans are showing early divisions over what to do about ObamaCare's protections for people with pre-existing conditions.
Some conservatives, including Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), want to simply repeal those provisions and other ObamaCare regulations and leave them up to the states.
But advocates of a more centrist approach, like Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.), are speaking out in favor of pre-existing condition protections and endorsing a "Jimmy Kimmel test" for the bill, where no one can be denied coverage.
Other senators are exploring a middle ground where states would have to automatically enroll people in health insurance before they could get a waiver for the regulations, though conservatives object to that idea as Washington overreach.

(3,040 posts)The split between pro-coverage and anti-coverage Republicans will be found between the deeply religious states where people believe it is the responsibility of the church and not the government to take care of the sick and those in purple and blue states that have a less fundamental and evangelical religious population base.

(2,768 posts)but these folks that want the church and charities to take care of the sick and poor. What are they "currently" doing to alleviate the situations out in these areas? Their voters complain about being unable to get the help they need which is happening in great part because the state governments are being run by people who refuse to accept federal help.
Why should anybody believe that religious and charitable organizations that currently can't/won't fill the health/financial gaps. Will suddenly be able to handle 100% of the needs of that particular state population once Federal Government is pushed out of the picture? I mean if they "CAN" handle it then go ahead and get cracking. It shows a serious level of callousness to let people suffer if they can prevent it?
Honestly though, we all know that those charitable and religious organizations don't have the need resources to take care of these people and they know it to. So either they are looking to let people die or this is some kind of scheme to become a middle man and collect federal dollars themselves.
I don't know, just FFS people in these areas need to stop voting for people that are perfectly alright with killing us all.
