In a USA Today interview with reporter Susan Page, Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) dished on a number of topics and people, such as former President Barack Obama, the current White House occupant and his relationships with his fellow Senate colleagues. And, in a particular case, the former Saturday Night Live funnyman joked how apparently nobody likes one specific senator.
You have to understand that I like Ted Cruz probably more than my colleagues like Ted Cruz, Franken told Page. And I hate Ted Cruz. The Minnesota lawmaker added that Cruz is just a special guy.
It was noted in the interview that Franken has devoted one full chapter to Cruz in his new book, titled Al Franken: Giant of the Senate, by Al Franken. He let Page know that he wasnt concerned with breaking Senate protocol by publicly discussing private conversations hes had with Cruz because the Texas Republican had already done so himself.
He is the exception to the rule in the book, which is theres protocol in the Senate of not writing about a conversation youve had with someone and reporting it where it would make them look bad, he explained. But because Ted broke that protocol and called [Senate Majority Leader] Mitch McConnell a liar on the floor, I felt like, Well, OK!

(82,849 posts)I've noticed on many occasions that he is very careful with his words, as befits someone who has made his living with his mouth all his adult life. Sometimes I think he can be a bit ponderous, but it's almost always for a good reason. Certainly there would be some who would criticize him for telling tales out of school about Sen. Cruz, but Sen. Franken is very careful to explain why he's saying what he's saying, short-circuiting that criticism before it happens.
Excellent work by the Senator, as always.

My favorite was "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them" but I love them all. He's a very talented man in so many ways.
