during most of those times he was a registered republican. He was a member of the "reform" party, when he pushed the birther/Muslim Lies, and ran for president under that before becoming a republican and running for president in 2016

Joe S and his Mika were the ones who gave millions of dollars of free airtime to Trump when he was running for office, they apparently (it was reported) talked with him on the phone every day and visited
Trump tower, if my memory serves me, Trump seemed angry at them on one occasion and he threatened
to expose their (in his words) sordid little affair, they went quiet for awhile, then they started for the first time being critical of him and announced the engagement. I would love to know the back story on all of this, because my memory is not always accurate.

Except that he won the republican primary by a YUGE margin.
And except that both Ryan and McConnell publicly stated that they support Trump's policies 100%.




If I were Republican, Trump winning the primary would have make me NERVOUS AS FUCK.
Why?
Because there is a complete outsider just swooping in and the whole republican base is immediately abandoning the candidates of the republican party. Just like that.

Poof. An outsider came out of nowhere and all the republican voters are gone.
