Sprint CEO 'disgusted' by woman's racist rant in store

Sprint CEO 'disgusted' by woman's racist rant in store
Viral video captures woman using a racial slur against a Latino customer in a Virginia Sprint store.
by Steven Musil May 23, 2017 4:51 PM PDT

Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure is condemning the behavior of a female customer caught on video using a racial slur against another customer in a Sprint store in Virginia.

The video captures an unidentified woman referring to a Latino man as a "spic," a racial slur used against Hispanics and Latinos, and threatening to physically assault him. The video has gone viral, attracting nearly 50,000 retweets since being posted on Twitter by civil rights activist Shaun King, also a reporter for the New York Daily News.

"It's happened again," King wrote. "White woman calls polite Latino man a spic, threatens him, says she's offended to hear him speak Spanish. America. 2017."

I love it (not really) when these ignorant descendants of illegal immigrants say This is America! Speak American!

I think which American language are we talking about here?

Crow? Cherokee? Sauk? Potawatomi? Dakota Sioux? Navajo? Mohawk? Lakota Sioux? Apache? And many others.

But they always mean the bastardized King's English from the invaders homeland that passes for American language.

Ironic, ain't it?

You know, people are so freaking ignorant. I speak Spanish - enough to get by. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being fluent, I'm maybe a 5 or 6. I *wish* I were fluent.

When I encounter this crap, which I do rarely, I generally inform the ignorant that our founding fathers spoke more than one language if they were at all educated. It is, in fact, a sign of great education to speak another language. When I work with my Spanish-speaking clients, I always praise how wonderful it is that their children are bilingual. The kids generally beam when I say this within earshot of them.

we'd have to take as a party to make these people comfortable.

And think how uncomfortable those new stances would make people in our base, people who soon not be in our base once we start catering to deplorables.

Wonder if the ones advocating going after trump voters thought that far ahead — that we'd lose voters probably more voters than we gain in trying to go after people who voted for trump.

I know I wouldn't stick around if our party suddenly lurched right to accommodate them.

And it's funny that Juan sounds very Americans, no detection of an accent and yet the idiot thinks he's illegal. I do hope she gets called out for such deplorable behavior.

Everyone in the store could hear her without making an effort. If you watch the video posted above, her volume is MUCH higher than the man who was just trying to give her some help.

If you don't want to be overheard while talking on a cell phone, lower your volume and go to a more private area - NOT in a restroom, please. (Having been in restrooms and being forced to listen to other people's cell phone comversations.)

maybe it was loud in the store, maybe the person she was talking to was in a loud place, driving or just hard of hearing.

it doesn't give random strangers the right to insert themselves into your private phone conversation. that's rather creepy, especially when the stranger is a man and you are a young woman.

still the woman completely overreacted.

That is the way it works for taking photos, same for cell phone conversations when they are so loud the people around can not help but hear.

If she had been talking that loudly to her husband who apparently was with her she would not have an expectation that the people around her could not hear her. Just because she is on a cell phone, that does not magically isolate her from everyone else in hearing distance.

The man who tried to help her talked much more quietly and she could hear him just fine so it does not seem to me that the sound level in the store was loud. If the person on the other end of the call can't hear her, she should suggest that she call back from a more private place.

I have absolutely no sympathy for loud cell phone users. When they go on to use racial slurs to someone who was just trying to help her and then tries to encourage her companion to fight him, I hope she gets all the crap the internet can throw at her.

I found several articles about how to troll annoying cell phone users. One of my favorites was to sit or stand next to them and have a pretend "mirrored" cell phone conversations where your comments are responses to what they say. The guy calls it cell phone crashing:

in this situation if you stretch the definition of eavsdrop to mean being forced to listen to a one sidded phone conversation in a very public place. If you don't want strangers weighing in on your phone conversation then don't put your phone conversation in their faces. In order to have your privacy protected you need to act privately.

It sounds like she was complaining to Sprint that the store didn't have something she wanted. I think she had been discussing this with the Sprint employee in the store before she called customer service. The phone call sounds like an extension of a discussion she and the employee had been having.
