(146,254 posts)My showroom was also a museum of sorts, and I welcomed classroom visits to it. I'd do a little introductory session on mineralogy and conduct a tour of the showroom. I had a stereo microscope station and lots of specimens for handling and examination.
The local church-run school called and asked if their fifth-grade class could come, and I said, "Sure. I'd love to have them visit." So they did, and I began my usual educational thing. At one point, the teacher interrupted me, as I was discussion the age of some of the specimens and how they formed. I even had a chunk of rock from Greenland that was, at the time, the oldest known rock on earth, dating back over 4 billion years. That was what I was explaining, while the kids passed it around.
Teacher objected and did so very rudely, telling the students that "He doesn't know what he's talking about. Those rocks were created 6000 years ago when God created the Earth." Uff da! I asked the teacher to step out of the room with me and explained that what I was doing was presenting science, and that I wasn't going to listen to rudely stated incorrect comments in my own place of business.
She gathered up the kids and stormed out. Poor kids. They missed some good information and a chance to learn some cool stuff. Oh, well.
