Utah stays classy for 4th of July

Some sickened by anti-Obama float in Huntsville's Fourth of July parade

HUNTSVILLE — Youngsters dressed as Secret Service agents and an individual wearing a Barack Obama mask signaled to spectators from a limo at Wednesday’s Huntsville Fourth of July parade — an entry with the kind of political speech that our country protects.

The sign on the side read: “Huntsville Welcomes Obama Farewell Tour?”

But it was the banner on the back of the limo that some riled spectators say went too far. According to a photo provided to the Standard-Examiner Friday morning, it read: "Ask about our assault gun plan," with "contact Eric Holder" in smaller type.

Some spectators thought this was an implied threat against the President.

disrespectful as this I pray the Obama's never hear of it. The mayor and other
officials are complicit liars. Having been in a number of parades there is always
a registration required. Shame on them. Racists hypocrites.

is very poorly written, imo, such that I fail to understand why onlookers were so offended by the language on the float. (The person in the Obama mask that resembled 1940s blackface is another matter entirely.)

Refreshing though to see some people in Utah protesting against a nominally anti-Obama float. Maybe there's hope yet for Utah?

But the lovely little OBAMANATION license plate just upped the tacky nature of the float.

And blackface is blackface whether it's a mask or makeup.

do a parody, however distasteful. But, if any public funds were involved, someone should be punished for making it political. I would feel the same if they were making fun of Mitt Romney instead of President Obama. Publicly-funded events are supposed to be politically neutral.
