There probably wasn't actually a Chinese curse that said, "May you live in interesting times," but there should have been. In any case, that "curse" has been repeated by many, including JFK, from time to time.
Those times are here, certainly. I've been on this planet, now, for almost 72 years. In that time, I have seen nothing quite as "interesting" as the developing story we're living through right now. We're seeing almost daily news of things that should be so unlikely and improbable as to be beyond belief. And yet, they are true, it appears.
We have a President who can barely remember his own name, and who is apparently uninterested in preserving whatever progress we have made in this nation's history. He has surrounded himself with thugs, dolts, ignoramuses, and truly evil people and has formed alliances with nations that have long been seen as adversaries.
Interesting times, indeed. And what is there to do but just watch the story unfold? I can think of nothing. So, I watch, sometimes in laughter and sometimes in terror.
BTW, here's an interesting page that discusses the phrase, "May you live in interesting times." I enjoyed reading it.

(5,499 posts)It seems as if we are on the precipice of something that will change us all. Maybe, even, it could change the nation. I would like to think this will be change for the better but, realistically, it could be for the worse. I don't know if our nations fragile psyche can handle a monumental presidential scandal. Or, even worse, a monumental government scandal. And yet, if all this blows over like an overhyped hurricane, I don't know what that does either.

My 95 yo father is flabbergasted by all that's going on. He told me he's never seen, nor did he "ever in a million years expect to see", anything like this in America. He's a patriot to his very core, served in WWII (Navy) and he literally teared up on the phone talking to me about what he's seeing going on with our country and x-party (Republican) now. He feels abandoned by gov and angry but mostly he's afraid for a future he told me he probably won't be here much longer for. He worries about the world, mostly those he loves, who will be left behind dealing with this. It breaks my heart to know he's so upset. These years of his life should be 'golden' not fearful.
