"This is now incredibly suspicious...
What did Kushner intend to transmit? Daily presidential briefings? Nuclear codes? Everyone in the intelligence community has to assume this is what he intended to do."
Jack:
"Let's think about where we are here... this starts to sound like the conspiracy people in the IC are petrified about. What is it this man was trying to get to the Russians?"

(17,003 posts)This is all about the money. Before Twitler was president it was much easier for him to launder money and make loan payments to the Russians. Presidential tax returns are automatically audited. I'm guessing by senior, unbribable, very, very good forensic accountants. He couldn't run the money through normal channels so...back channel conversations to set up back channel bank accounts.

Twitler ...as in Hitler?
Very sly

(1,353 posts)When you have a bunch Intel guys saying this is sinister, treasonous, criminal...and Rice even said people could die because of this...assuming he's meaning our international agents/asserts...
I feel like this is just the tip and that's even more frightening.

(5,810 posts)Is that if it was Hillary and her campaign people who were accused of 1/10th of what has come out this week (especially all the back channel talk) the far righties would have already tried and convicted her and have arranged for a public hanging in the Rose Garden. Instead they are conspicuously silent or are busy spinning fairy tales to explain logical/legal reasons why they would need the back channel. Some are desperately looking at the past for examples that were innocuous, non-treasonous actions.
I am sick to death of the excuse making and the idea that this will take months and possibly years to resolve is ridiculous. If the robber is in your house, stealing the heirloom silver and about to set a fire to cover his tracks, do you wait until he has fled with the goods to sound the alarm and call 9-11???? Do you investigate the crime for 2-3 years before finding enough evidence to make an arrest?? That is BS!
If we stand for this, maybe we're not the intelligent ones---

(9,670 posts)They know that this is nothing short of espionage.
The steady drip, drip, drip of leaks is not an accident. It is a carefully plotted, one-bite-at-a-time effort by the IC to inform the American people, via our media, of the crimes perpetrated by the Trump organization and the GOP.
They know that the public would not accept the accusations if leveled at once. We need to digest this a little bit at a time. They're painting a picture for us, filling in empty spaces one by one.
I don't believe for one minute that the evidence isn't already there to send dozens to prison. The unfurling of that evidence, though, is delicate because of the enormous divisions in the American people who have been conditioned to believe that all attacks are partisan in nature.

(51,129 posts)and where the leaks can even serve the investigations because they trigger the targets, who must be getting very buggy about now.
To speculate a bit, Manafort, Stone, et.al. had their business assets in Russia set up to do propaganda and black ops for regime change, and these people could not operate in the USA without getting a permission slip from Putin. The Trump campaign ran them from before Trump declared his candidacy and thus Trump directed the DNC hack and other illegal actions. Now, they need secure communications with Russian co-conspirators because of the investigations and in order to coordinate actions to prevent further revelations. These cover-up actions may well have already included murdering those people who could reveal the operation, persons who were involved in previous regime change/control efforts included, Ukraine, Brazil, Montenegro, previous USSR states, and others. This is very high level espionage activity of the utmost seriousness and might have huge impact on global politics and even result in wars.

(15,805 posts)an off the grid secret communications system in control of a foreign enemy to clandestinely talk with that country's despotic leader right after they had just conspired to overthrow the American election and install their own chosen puppet to undermine our government.
I'm sure Kushner just wanted to extend an invitation for tea the next time Putin was in town... nothing to see hear... move along... oh, look... squirrel!

(10,828 posts)This latest bombshell (which I read about several months ago, I might add) is the beginning of the end for this despicable crew. The likes of Hugh Hewitt are trying to spin this as a perfectly normal action--the opening of back channels to the Russians in order to solve the world's problems. What he and other apologists fail to address is that this was a request for back channels on encrypted Russian communication systems. And why not do it from the Russian embassy, Kushner suggested.
Really?
I've never seen Malcolm Nance so agitated. For the IC, on both sides of the aisle, this is classic espionage, covert activity. And it's coming from the frigging WH. Why? Most likely arrogance and greed. Promises of loans, continued money laundering and being made King of the Hill. Whatta you got to lose? Trump yelled out this his supporters.
Everything. Our history, communal memory, the Republic.
Lock 'em up! Frog march the apologists, too.
Disgusting.
