Taliban publicly execute woman near Kabul: officials

By Hamid Shalizi and Amie Ferris-Rotman

KABUL | Sat Jul 7, 2012 1:29pm EDT

(Reuters) - A man Afghan officials say is a member of the Taliban shot dead a woman accused of adultery in front of a crowd near Kabul, a video obtained by Reuters showed, a sign that the austere Islamist group dictates law even near the Afghan capital.

In the three-minute video, a turban-clad man approaches a woman kneeling in the dirt and shoots her five times at close range with an automatic rifle, to cheers of jubilation from the 150 or so men watching in a village in Parwan province.

"Allah warns us not to get close to adultery because it's the wrong way," another man says as the shooter gets closer to the woman. "It is the order of Allah that she be executed".

Provincial Governor Basir Salangi said the video, obtained on Saturday, was shot a week ago in the village of Qimchok in Shinwari district, about an hour's drive from Kabul.

Salangi said two Taliban commanders were sexually involved with the woman in Parwan, either through rape or romantically, and decided to torture her and then kill her to settle a dispute between the two of them.

But eventually that primitive rockpile will be completely depopulated anyway, because there will be no women left to bear the next generation of these psychos.

Because clearly they're barbarians and incapable of being civilized on their own, as proven by a few assholes instead of the 34+ million people who just want to live in peace?

Are you aware how racist that statement is?

Leave that entire country to burn in its own little seventh century hell. Someday those people may rise up and claim their right to breath free. But I doubt I will see it.

Arrested for idol worship

A Sri Lankan youth employed as a domestic aid has been arrested in Saudi Arabia for worshiping a statue of the Buddha, which is considered an offence according to Shariah law.

According to the Bodu Bala Senaa, the youth bearing passport no. 2353715 identified as Premanath Pereralage Thungasiri has been arrested by Umulmahami Police, which is a grave situation.

The organisation states that information has been received regarding a plan that is underway to behead a Sri Lankan youth employed in domestic service in Saudi Arabia. Although a complaint has been lodged at the Foreign Employment Bureau, Battaramulla, under complaint no: CN/158/1205, so far no action has been taken.

While the youth is a Buddhist, the charge levelled against him is that he paid obeisance to the Buddha at the house where he was employed.

This story wouldn't make the American press. The Saudis are the "good kind" of Muslim, whereas the Afghan sort and their medieval antics are the daily grist for the US agitprop mill. I heard about the unlucky Buddhist through an Aussie site. The story can't even be found through Google News search- that's how uninterested US news media are. He's just not the right kind of victim being victimized by the right sort of villain.

but it's hardly just agitprop when it comes to the Taliban. yes, it's used as such but anyone who's read about Taliban rule and what that meant for women is aware of just how they treat women.

And my bet is that the youth you're talking about will not be executed but deported. That said, it's a story that damned well should make the U.S. press and you're right as hell about the reasons why.

Religous fundamentalists will not just stop at birth control.

This is "asprin between the legs" to the extreme.

Western women need to take a good long look at the Taliban and ponder just how "devout" they really are to a Gospel as interpreted by ordinary men.

Faith in a never ending afterlife has powerful appeal. There is always an ordinary man at the front that will tell you how to get there. Just do what he says and live like he tells you to live. That is the Taliban way.

Teabaggers love to revise history to suit their needs, but the Taliban are no different than Christians during the Spanish Inquisition. History shows us that there is nothing more to religous zeal than men controlling other men (or women). It is as simple as that.

Want religion in government?.....just observe Afghanistan to see what it can become.

And people wonder why, when they try to draw an equivalency between wearing burqas and posing for Playboy, I will go all H-bomb on them. There is no fucking equivalency. None.

This is sickening, more so that it's still happening in the 21st century.
