I think Brzezinski made a difference in "converting" or softening Scarborough.

I mean Zbigniew. I think Joe listened to him. Joe was very deferential to Pres. Jimmy Carter when he called in to MoJo to express his condolences. Earlier in the show, Scarbrough talked highly positively about the Carter achievements in foreign policy.

the show created a wonderful memorial of the life and work of Zbig, and he wanted to be respectful. But I've heard little phrases here and there where it sounds like JS is almost ready to give up on his party if they don't fix this administration pronto. Sure, he'll always be a conservative, but he's not as strident in labelling Democrats any more.

He should have opened up and given his viewers "straight talk" anbout dft in 2016 and 2015.

He predicted the fall of the USSR as early as the 1960s, when such an idea was unthinkable.

I read several of his books, too, and was very impressed by his insights. Particularly "The Grand Chessboard".

Of course, Jimmy Carter is one of the smartest human beings ever to become president, so it's no surprise he'd hire smart people. As he said, "Why not the best?"

Wouldn't surprise me one bit if he influenced Joe Scarborough. Everyone who met him spoke very highly of his intellect.

Here he is playing chess with Menachem Begin:

I don't know how it would work, but Trump would find a way to blunder that badly.

As much as I dislike Benjamin Netanyahu, I cannot doubt his intellect either.

I wonder who won that game... Both Begin and Zbig were really bright...

I remember reading about Zbig's and Carter's discussions about their Christianity. He said Carter found in it a certainty where he found a search.

donnie would throw his tantrum *before* the game, claiming it was gonna be rigged against him.

but in fact, his aides would have made bibi promise to lose as a condition of contest.

bibi would make several blunders but donnie of course would fail to see the winning moves.

finally, an aide would bring him a bottle of trump water and whisper in his ear the correct move.

of been he totally missed the boat when it came to Iran. Hid obsession with the USSR prevented him from a realistic assessment of Iran.

Really, what happened there was classic "blowback", as the CIA calls it, to our interference and overthrow of their legitimately elected government back in 1953.

Most people in the United States have no idea what Operation AJAX was, or what it did, or why the Iranian government is so hostile to us. But ask anyone who is from Iran, and I guarantee you they know all about it.

In 1979, the concept of blowback wasn't as easily defined - our constant meddling in other countries' governments hadn't yet come back to bite us in the ass.

He armed the Mujahideen to tie the USSR up in Afghanistan and bleed them to death. It was their Vietnam. He didn't anticipate the blow back or conversely he wasn't in power to manager the aftermath of the USSR's defeat there.

He was one of our nation's greatest foreign policy thinkers.

I am remember watching him debate Kissinger whom he respected in the lead up to Gulf War ll . Zbig remarked how preposterous the notion that Saddam could move around chemical weapons without us seeing it.
