Al Jazeera Tweets, Then Deletes, Anti-Semitic Greedy Jew Meme.

The English-language Twitter account for Al Jazeera tweeted an anti-Semitic meme on Wednesday to promote a story about climate change.

Al Jazeera later deleted the post, but Twitter user Eli Meixler quickly took a screenshot.

The meme is known as the “Happy Merchant,” and depicts a hook-nosed Jew in a yarmulke rubbing his hands together. BuzzFeed has called the character the “internet’s favorite anti-Semitic image.”

Al Jazeera did not respond to a request for comment.

I think it was comparing climate change deniers to anti-Semitic conspiracy theorists. At least that's my impression, and AJ has always been fair.

(Still a stupid move)

You do know what the Talmud is, right? Of course the tweet is anti-semitic.

The image did not represent Al J's views. They were displaying an example of antisemitism and climate change denial coming from same source.

However, I think it was unintentional by the author, but makes me wonder about AJ's editorial review process.

The. Author, Mehdi Hassan has taken a very hardline and candid stance against anti-semitism in the British Muslim community.

I think you are right. AJ was not tweeting this image as their own opinion. Rather, they were tweeting it as an example of the stuff climate change deniers believe, and as a reason not to trust said deniers.

Of course the image itself is anti-Semitic, that appears to be the point.

To the other commenters: Imagine if the SPLC tweeted this image as an example of the stuff they see Nazi groups tweeting. You wouldn't claim the SPLC was the one being anti-Semitic.

It was a response posted by an anti-semitic Trump person "SigGirl" to an AJE tweet.

AJE says they mistakenly linked to it when they posted their tweet.

It was anti-Semitic, and yet, as expected anytime anti-Semitism is fucking mentioned, in come the nay-sayers, who go on to defend the motivations or the source. Never....fucking....fails!
