Trump-Russia: Devin Nunes subpoenaed CIA, FBI, NSA without telling Democrats

Washington: A political feud erupted on Wednesday over the US House Intelligence Committee's probe of suspected Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, with charges that the panel's Republican chairman subpoenaed the CIA, FBI and National Security Agency without telling Democratic members.
Committee aides complained that the chairman, Representative Devin Nunes, who publicly recused himself from leading the Russia probe in April following a secret visit he paid to White House officials, failed to consult Democrats on the subpoenas.

The former officials named in the subpoenas were Obama national security adviser Susan Rice, former US Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power and former CIA Director John Brennan.
"Subpoenas related to the 'unmasking' issue would have been sent by Chairman Nunes acting separately from the committee's Russia investigation. This action would have been taken without the minority's (Democrats') agreement," said a senior committee aide, speaking on condition of anonymity. "Any prior requests for information would have been undertaken without the minority's knowledge."
Another congressional source, who also requested anonymity, insisted that Democrats were "informed and consulted" before the subpoenas were issued.

Conaway assumed Republican leadership of the probe after Nunes recused himself. Nunes retained his power to issue subpoenas.

....New York Times. It reported that Cohen was involved in a back-channel plan, which never came to fruition, that would have involved a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine, and the lifting of US sanctions against Moscow.

(16,847 posts)He's intentionally trying to sabotage the investigation by shifting focus and subverting the actual investigation. This guy needs to be investigated himself for all of his shenanigans. Unbelievable....IOKIYAR I guess...SMDH.

He did this to blow up Meuller's investigation.

(678 posts)Now we know what his real purpose was in being named to that position in the first place.
Every dictator has his loyal protectors.
Someone has dirt on Nunes if he shows disloyalty.
Or...
Its the mob afterall.

(1,089 posts)not under arrest? He's fucking with the intelligence community deliberately to screw up the search for truth. As said upthread, it's actually a good thing he's so stupid, as it'll only make it that much easier to expose this turd when the time comes. He's no match for the IC or Mueller.

(3,245 posts)I'm getting a feeling that these subpoenas are his (and possibly the Trump team) way of finding out just what the underlying facts were that led the the unmasking and just how deep the intelligence went during the campaign.
I don't see this as an attempt to muddy Mueller's investigation in the least. Mueller would have easy access under his investigation to have (or to eventually see) the full reporting and the basis of facts that led to these unmaskings. If he was trying to muddy the waters, the optics of these subpoenas would be very different and more than likely would be coming from someone like Trey Gowdy, not Devin Nunes. Conaway in no way could have done this as it would have required Schiff to sign off on them also, which wasn't going to happen, imo.
Nunes, at least as far as I can tell, is trying to find out for the Administration just how deep the water is right now, not how deep the ocean really is.
