Why are Donald Duck's nephews more memorable than Mickey Mouse's?

Last edited Mon Jun 5, 2017, 06:46 AM - Edit history (1)

Most people know who Huey, Dewey, and Louie are. I don't think I can even name Mickey Mouse's two nephews without Googling. Why is it that the Duck triplets register more in the social psyche than the Mouse twins?

What's the critical Factor here? Duckness over Mouseness? The rule of three over the rule of 2? The rhyming names? Or is there something more gratifying against our social expectations sets, something that roots for a more parental role for the more childish acting Donald Duck, whereas Mickey Mouse has already been parentified by evolving into a more mature and emotionally balanced character in the years since his Steamboat Willie debut, and thus is less compelling when he adapts to the mentor role with his nephews?

Plus, the nephews got a lot of time in the comic books, they'd love to flabbergast a duck who was perpetually PO'd about something!

It was his work that raised the nephews to an iconic status and then it was that work that was the Disney cartoon Duck Tales that was based on and that's cemented them in there for generations in the last 30 years

A more fundamental question: Why are there aunts and uncles, nephews and nieces, but no fathers, mothers, sons, daughters ?

Donald made me laugh more as a child.

Why do Adam Sandler movies make more money than say a European art movie?

Why did Breaking bad average something like 3 million viewers per episode, and everybody loves
raymond averaged 15 million??

Why has Kayne got a ton of Grammys and the beatles only have a few???

Are they lumped together, or do Huey Dewey and Louie each have their own Wikipedia page? Give me your answer before you go over to check it out.

so there is more comic tension in pairing him with kids, particularly ones as prone to trouble as H, D and L. Mickey might sigh and get upset but Donald goes ballistic--which one is more fun to tease?
