White House Braces for Comey Testimony

June 5, 2017 By Taegan Goddard

Mike Allen: “White House officials convey a sense of gloomy doom when they talk about fired FBI Director Jim Comey’s public testimony on Thursday. They know his aw-shucks rectitude, combined with real-time written recollections, guarantee riveting testimony. Their hope is that it’ll be more atmospherics than substance — how he felt, as opposed to any new facts about what President Trump said or did.”

“Here’s the problem with that hope: Even if Comey didn’t have a single new thing to say (unlikely, given his habit of writing memos about his conversations with the president and perhaps his aides), the rat-tat-tat of already-reported, tough-to-explain facts is astounding.”

to subvert the election in favor of the Republican Party. He is a conservative and has proven himself a number of times before, not just with his huge 2016 betrayal, willing to cast aside his supposed "integrity" when it suits him.

Which is to say, I strongly suspect his testimony will have purposes it should not: (1) protection of self from any legal consequences, (2) selling a phony version of his own actions to improve his public image, and (3) protection of the GOP and the powers behind it. Rump, of course, is disposable.

Interest in protecting the guy who pressured him to pledge loyalty and stop investigating Flynn and Trump/Russia.

I understand your scepticism but I think it is misplaced. He's gonna call out Trump on on several attempts to meddle in/stop the investigation.

Time will tell, though. I'm sure we'll be talking again after Thursday.

I think he will make the case for obstruction of justice on Thursday. This will be followed by a closed session where he can discuss classified intel with the Senate.

Mike Rogers' testimony on Wednesday is also rumored to be huge. He would have access to intercepted communications.
