(4,820 posts)You could see he really struggled not to laugh in the Senators face but rather simply treat him as a senile Grandfather. Just repeat over and over that the Clinton investigation into use of the private server was over but that Russian meddling in the election investigation continues.
McCain was having trouble with the Fox Talking points, because, of course they are absurd.

(12,448 posts)He called Trump "Comey" at least twice, if not three times. Comey had a WTF look on his face throughout his questioning. Then when McCain was told his time was up--a perfectly normal statement--he looked like he was about to blow up.

(9,440 posts)It's not like everybody in Arizona voted for him. I never voted for McCain. In fact I have voted only for Democrats my entire voting life. It's unfair to label everybody in a red state as red.

(Jim Carville once remarked that when he was invited to speak at a meeting of the Texas Democrats, he thought he would be speaking inside a phone booth--I was there, and it was no phone booth!)

Republican voters don't understand that Russia could care less about our identity politics. They will back dems when they want and it serves their purposes. By the time those voters figure it out, it might be too late.

(5,810 posts)SHE WAS THE VICTIM. Hillary and her campaign.
So naturally we have to investigate HER campaign to see what part it may have played in her victimization.
Boggles the mind.....

In fact, I think millions of voices rang out a harmonious "She was the victim! What the fuck!?" across the country.
My husband was walking through the room, and just started shaking his head, and mumbled, "you know, I used to think he was the SMART republican".

(10,823 posts)McCain appeared on point yesterday, but this morning . . . he made no sense. Not sure what his argument was beyond what Maddow wrote. Which, of course, is stupid. Two investigations, different subjects altogether. One investigation concluded. The second investigation on-going. But there's a double standard???
The Republican meme is obviously to somehow draw a dotted between Clinton and Trump. If she was found innocent of any criminal liability then Trump should be, too.
A lame, lame defense.
The one point I agree with McCain is the meaning of 'that thing.' I can't understand why Comey wouldn't have asked Trump what he meant.

(985 posts)He wanted to end the conversation with minimal impact and be able to continue to do his job. It's like asking why a woman who is getting weird sexual innuendo from her boss doesn't ask him to go into more concrete detail, and instead doesn't continue that line of conversation.

(10,823 posts)One of the things that was perfectly clear (to me) during the testimony is that Comey is a strategic thinker, someone who can perceive the long game and the ramifications of his words, said and unsaid. Probably has a lot to do with his legal background and experience as a prosecutor.
But from a simple human nature perspective, Trump's 'that thing' comment would get a rise and a query from most people. Most would need to bite their tongue not to inquire or demand clarification. Yet Comey appears to have let the comment slide without a great deal of consternation. That I found curious.

What a bumbling, insignificant old clown. Poor Comey was doing his best not to put a mirror in front of the dunce for fear he might explode. Idiot...making Arizona proud. Just pathetic.
Damned jackass.

(8,280 posts)I thought he was upset with Comey that he concluded the investigation of Hillary's emails and ya know...didn't lock her up.
He seemed pissed that they are continuing this investigation into the GOP administration instead.

(4,490 posts)Got to watch the whole thing with my mom after I got home from work. It was bizzare. We did get a kick out of Comey's baffled looks, and subsequent attempts to explain basic common sense knowlege to McCain in a very professional manner. His patience and composure was truly impressive. Thought he looked extremely relieved after McCain's time was up lol.
