While You Were Comey-ing, the House Was Up to No Good
Paul Ryan and the Republicans have a plan, alright.

WASHINGTON—So, some other things happened today.

snip//

Meanwhile, in the Congress, the nomination of former senator Scott Brown to be ambassador to New Zealand was confirmed in the Senate by a whopping margin that included the support of the two Democratic women who ended McDreamy's political career—Senator Professor Warren and Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire.

Also, our favorite lop-headed Javert, Trey Gowdy of South Carolina, was chosen to replace Jason Chaffetz as chair of the House Oversight Committee, which likely will be a no-show job until the next time the country elects a Democratic president. After all, Gowdy hasn't been exactly a bulldog on the possibility that Russian ratfcking may have helped install the incumbent.

And, finally, the House passed the Let's Let The Bankers Steal What's Left Act of 2017. From CNBC:

Among the most significant provisions are measures that allow banks to escape heightened regulatory requirements and cut stress tests back from their current annual schedule, while the bill also eviscerates the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. In all, the measure takes aim at the Dodd-Frank reforms, which sought less risk and higher capital levels from an industry linked to the crisis and the accompanying Great Recession. Lenders got in trouble following mass defaults of risky mortgages, then required a government bailout when they didn't have the capital to cover their losses.

The bill has no chance ever of passing in the Senate, but it is an interesting window into the minds of the House Republican majority, the members of which apparently slept through the Aughts. Speaker Paul Ryan, the zombie-eyed granny starver from the state of Wisconsin, took to the well of the House in order to tell grotesque untruths about what he and his caucus are up to with this bill. This what happens when nobody's looking. The thieves paradise reopens for business.
