I worked on over 10,000 BP Gulf oil spill cases from beginning to end. After the explosion and 11 deaths came the oil. It caused widespread economic loss throughout the Gulf states. I remember both Rachel Maddow and Anderson Cooper say in their live broadcast from the coast that they would be back down later and follow up on this story. They never did.

The reason they did not is because BP put on a huge advertising campaign for 3 years, especially for news outlets along the coast itself. No victim stories were taped locally to make the national news because the outlets needed that ad money and it was clear BP would cut the money off to any station or paper that printed anything negative.

While BP's commercials went from "Come on down to the coast" to a lady freezing her butt off in Alaska (as far from the Gulf as possible and still be in the U.S.), national news outlets faced the same advertising threat.

The effect was that the rest of the country were left with the impression that it had all been taken care of almost at the beginning. Advertising and news departments used to be kept separate. News used to have to bring truth to what they told. Now they label it "Entertainment" and they can legally lie to us!

Did any of you get a lot of spam over the years? From Director James Comey?
I cannot tell you how many millions of dollars I have inherited from long lost
relatives in Nigeria as well as other countries. Sometimes notices of these
inheritances, or those willing to share their own good fortune if I will simply
clear the checks for them, come directly from spam accounts with the header
'Director James Comey, FBI' or some such. My cash flow has kind of diminished
though I'm sure one went into the trash bin just last week.

Was all this spam connected in some way? It helped to erode our tether to reality
and made election rumors about HRC more believable and something to laugh about?
They should have done something about spam long ago. There is no money in stopping
spam. Now maybe it will be re-examined.
