Looking down the road could this be bad for the Republicans in 2018?

Lets say even if everything came crashing down on tRump, the republican senate and house would not impeach him (he's new at this, right?). Would this bode badly for them (republicans) in 2018?. Could a democratically controlled senate and house THEN impeach and convict???
That is if this is still on a slow boil in 2018...

It would be political suicide for any Republican to vote to impeach or convict Trump, they would either lose their next primary or not get any votes from their base in the next general election.

The 2018 midterms won't matter much as far as getting a Senate that would actually convict Trump. Realistically we might get 2 or 3 Senate seats in 2018 putting us at 50 or 51, we would then need 16 or 17 Republicans to join us to get to 67 votes, very unlikely.

That's what I'm thinking.. Damned if they do and damned if they don't. If they do vote for impeachment (which I doubt) their base would flee from them. If they don't vote for impeachment or at least act on any improprieties, the general electorate will see them for what they are, just playing politics and vote democratic... I wish I had a crystal ball!!!

but I can see taking a majority in both houses.

Impeachment? Maybe. Conviction in the Senate? I don't think so.

No reason not to try, though.

Democratic voters no longer care what Republicans think and Republican voters no longer care what Democratic voters think and both groups will go the polls and vote to screw over the other side.

but nowhere near enough votes to convict in the Senate. Honestly, unless we could get Pence booted as well I'd be happy with having a House and Senate to put hobbles on everything Trump tries to do. Then take the Presidency in 2020.
