Update Saturday: helicopters still searching. Police on horseback combing the preserve near her subdivision. Many people driving around searching. SO is going out on his bike again.
Time is running out for this dear woman.
Thank you, my DU friends, for your words of support.
A dear woman, friend and former colleague who suffers from memory issues, wandered from her home yesterday afternoon. She has not been seen since.
Local law enforcement has been all over the area, with dogs, boats (Florida) and copters. People are driving around (including my SO) looking for her.
It's a residential area but being Florida, lots of waterways and wooded areas.
I don't have a good feeling about it. Any good thoughts are welcome.

(34,131 posts)Tonight here in Tallahassee it will be 65 F. While it is not rainy tonight, the ground is still damp and the dewpoint is 61 so it will be a damp chill - the kind that cuts through to the bone.
I hope the woman is found safe with no adverse effects.

(30,481 posts)Obviously you are correct about Florida. Don't forget that there is also a lot of asphalt. Hope she is safe.

(83,669 posts)A lot of this is coming down to Dementia and Alzheimer. Hillary was going to do something about that...fund the research. Now we get nothing. Our parents, friends and we are all aging. Most of us will get nothing now. Dementia...Cancer....more...we are on our own now.

(42,278 posts)If she's been wandering since yesterday she's gotta be dehydrated at the least. She's a small but physically healthy woman in her early 70s and a nurse.
I can only hope her training has kicked in.

(42,278 posts)A few abandoned houses, and lean-tos in the preserve just east of her subdivision. SO thought she may have sought out shelter.
We still hope.

(30,717 posts)That happened to someone in our community a few years ago. She was found safe after two and a half days. She was sleeping in cornfields, and did not remember what happened to her. The hospital checked her out and she was okay. Now she lives in an assisted living facility. She is okay, but occasionally wanders mentally.

(42,278 posts)Expanded the search area but nothing yet. There are a lot of wooded areas and small lakes all around us here
SO was out most of the day riding his bike on the dirt roads and trails. It's pretty grim at this point.
It's always possible she took shelter in a shed or abandoned house ( a few around here). We're hoping but reality is setting in.
