He knows he's lying, but he believes if he says it then it must be magically transformed into the truth. That's not just your normal garden variety narcissism, that's damn impressive narcissism. Since nobody has ever held him accountable for his obvious bullshit, there's no reason for him to believe he can't simply continue.

It's very rare that people are prosecuted for lying in depositions, even though it's technically perjury. What usually happens is if the case goes to trial their deposition testimony can be used to impeach their trial testimony on cross-examination, but that's about it. Trump's litigation almost always settles after his lawyers have made it financially impossible for his opponent to continue to trial, so he has always gotten away with lying under oath in depositions, with the result that making statements under oath means nothing to him.

But this is a whole different ball game, and he hasn't figured that out yet. He soon will, though - the hard way.

keep his lies straight under questioning. The most rookie investigator or prosecutor would easily be able to break him in an interrogation or cross-examination.

Needless to say any "under oath" questioning will handled in writing through his lawyer.

A fighter pilot friend of ours once asked me if I kknew how to tell if a fighter pilot was lying to me. His standard - "If his lips are moving."

I really wonder if Donnie 2 Scoops even knows whether or not he is telling the truth or lying. It often seems as if he thinks that just because he says something, it is true.

He seems to have that basic personality quirk that tells him to lie, even when he doesn't have to.

I think he lies to prove that he can put shit over on others and prove he's better than everybody else because only a fool would buy into his shit. Frankly, I'm tired of our system enabling him.

Lying comes naturally to Trump. It's like the magical thinking that most small children do; if they believe it, it is so (the Tinkerbell effect). Most of us grow out of that, of course; Trump never has. If he wants it, he must have it; if he believes it, it's true.

He has lied under deposition in civil suits before.

A skilled lawyer would have Republican stupid President Trump contradicting himself under oath in ten minutes.

However, first he has to agree to testify under oath and then he has to agree to answer questions and not just make a statement. Unlikely since he is full of bluster and was going to release his tax returns a year ago.

But keep him saying this oath shit. Bring it.

The word salad would be so completely tossed that no one would be able to tell the lies from the truth. No one would understand what he was saying. He often fails to complete a sentence or a thought. He jumps from one thing to another.

Let's face it: Anyone attempting to continually create obfuscative narrative broad enough to keep building a taller protective house of lies around the Trumpinator has got their hands, their headaches and their black, undersized hearts very, very full of work.
And it's only been six months!
Yes, I agree the Donald has no scruples whatsoever. He fully admitted that in his "Art of the Steal" book.
We watched for 8 years while Republicans built, and maintained half a dozen false narratives around our pick for president.
They got used to nursing a relatively small stack of falsehoods.

Keep the popcorn coming mom, I believe the climax of implosion under the sheer weight of bullshit is yet to come. Maybe sooner, maybe later. The longer this keeps up, the heavier their own burden of their own FrankenTrump becomes.

he has enough of a grip on reality to actually think that he's capable of lying.

If enough of the right people sincerely come to that conclusion, we may be relieved of him without the spectacle of a full impeachment in the Congress. But, it's going to require a majority of his supporters coming to that conclusion first before the actors who could actually remove him would have the necessary courage to do so.

As long as Trump keeps his voters in line, he can pretty much do anything he wants. He showed us that during the primaries, during the general election, and even now. And he can go right over the heads of the media with Twitter. Even George Orwell would be shocked.

You do have to provide them with the trappings of wealth. Only problem is senility is setting in and the lead actor is getting cranky the secondary actors are becoming worried about the lead.
