If he refused, I suppose he would have the authority to fire the Special Counsel on his own??

However, he cannot fire the Congressional investigations, in the House or the Senate. Also, the FBI investigation would probably continue.

The Legislature would still have the option of hiring an Independent Counsel or appointing a Committee to get to the bottom of the Russian connection story?

to fire Mueller. That's what Nixon did ordering the AG to fire Cox. The AG refused, the dep AG refused and both were fired. Finally Robert Bork, the #3, agreed to do it.

There's a couple Watergate retropsectives on TV this month, so everyone who didn't live through that will be able to see the comparisons.

rather than fire Cox when Nixon ordered them to do so. Bork then fired Special Prosecutor Cox.

I predict Rump orders little rebel, Sessions to fire Mueller and he will. He'll un recuse himself to do so.

Contrary to what some say, that he would fire him in a NY second if he gets the opportunity.

However, at this time, he would have to convince DepAG Rosenstein to fire him. It is within Rosenstein's authority, not the President's.

So he could fire Rosenstein and hire a sycophant in his place that would be willing to fire Mueller? So it is possible, but it might take a while.

Trump must be complaining about what a suck-ass job he has? He can't fire people that are not loyal to him or present a challenge to his ambition to make millions and millions and billions of dollars.
