(6,911 posts)There is no "DJT" who signs cabinet appointees' paycheck. You and I sign their paychecks, they work for *us*. Instead, they bark for the orange guy who gives them doggie treats paid for by others. And the orange guy takes the credit, and is offended if his little dog act is mocked for what it is.
That has been my reaction, just effin' weird.

(3,428 posts)cabinet are millionaires and a few are billionaires. None of these people need that government paycheck. I don't understand why they would allow themselves to be humiliated by Boss Tweet.
Unless these guys are real ideologues and /or Class warriors who see that Trumpass's cabinet positions give them the ideal opportunity to advance their battles against Medicare, SOS, etc.

(5,017 posts)It is not that they need more money. Money is their crack - it takes more and more just to get the same high.
But what really motivates them about the cabinet position is the power. They will abase themselves to one person if it gives them power over the masses.

(22,474 posts)Yet most billionaires want to be 2 billionaires and on and on.
I remember Wayne Dyer speaking on always wanting more. He said, "Where is the peace in more?"
These people may have all sorts of money but they don't have happiness. There is a big difference between pleasure, (that money can buy) and happiness.

(15,222 posts)The fact that it is so obvious is amazing. Couldn't they have covered their tracks a little better? There is no cabinet-level person in the repuglican government that wants this to work. They want it to fail.
When the alarm bells start ringing on a crisis spot around the world or even in the us - will this government even want to respond to preserve the US? I don't think so.
Have we been sold down the river to the rUSSRians? I think so.

(58,785 posts)who plan to run our nation out of their greater wisdom for their own benefit, because they are proved to deserve it, and because anyone who can't write a check for his own healthcare is proved to not.
I just refer in talking about them in shorthand as the Kochs because their organization of several hundred megamillionaires and billionaires is the largest, possibly surpassing the GOP in power, and Robert Mercer because he's closest to Rump. But with very little research we could put dozens of names to these Americans, and with more attention hundreds of names.
Note that completely destroying America's economy would not benefit them economically. Restructuring to eliminate almost all taxes and regulation is what they want. And, yes, that would cost them economically, but they also want power and an end to our ability to tell them what to do and to "sponge" off them, as they like to imagine it.

(15,222 posts)Response from the crusty ones:
We can and we do live all over the world. If we need to make some other spot our preferred center of power, no sweat. We'll move on before the climate and pollution spoils our special world, golf courses, yacht races.
Why shouldn't we just turn most of North America, and then other areas, into "resource centers"? That's been the way of progress for eons - whether capitalism, socialism, communism. It's all just about US!
Fug the locals/indigenous. In 50-200 years they'll all die off because of poor healthcare, no education, introduced drugs. Leave enough of the "trustees" to take care of cleanup. Hire a few techie folks to run the big machines. And then rape, steal, plunder. Feed the raw materials into our automated mills churning out products for our upper class.
I'm sure we will find ways to avoid the end times, at least longer than you poor stupid non-privileged sub-humans.

(58,785 posts)rule, and most would prefer to rule here. America has half of all the planet's billionaires, and it's not because they couldn't all go live in other of the most desirable places on the planet. They can.
In fact, though they also have homes overseas of course, most reportedly choose to cluster close to each other here, not just the same cities, but the same neighborhoods. Look at Rump and the Kochs. I can see NYC, but Palm Beach and Kansas as the centers of the world for them? Home sweet homes.
erronis
(15,222 posts)For some reason most plutocrats like to live near the sea. Kansas (having lived there) is probably not a good retreat for the richies. Davos, Gstaad, Jackson Hole, Aspen - maybe.
Places like the Himalayan and Tibetan plateaus may be safe from sea level rises for 100s of years.
But don't forget the friendly crowds of people that would like to join the billionaires in their aerie retreats. That's why the upper-crusties have to get rid of as much as the useless population (me and you) as they can before that point.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)And, needless to say, they don't need government subsidized, or even guaranteed, insurance. If their homes get swept away, they just instruct their assistants to arrange for an architect, etc., tell all the various underlings just what they want, and return in their private jets when it's done.
And should the seas rise 50 feet or whatever, they'd just move their estates inland to the new coast, buying out and using taxes, zoning, etc., to push out whoever's already there. It's actually happened many times many places over the centuries.
But really, we need to do what our grandparents did and tax and regulate them until we destroy the mega-millionaire and billionaire classes. The callous irresponsibility and extremism of some of them is a huge threat to our democracy and our planet.

When the mangled-apricot hell-beast has a meltdown over such a perceived insult, she's probably the one who has to endure his tantrum (and possibly abuse, verbal or otherwise). And this could explain why she delayed moving to 1600 for as long as she could.
Me? I have no pity for this particular bird-in-a-gilded-cage. "For better or WORSE. In (mental) sickness and health..." Vows have consequences. She could -- and should -- escape with Barron to a safe place. I hear Slovenia is nice this time of year.
The good news is that, if she is unwilling to give Drumpf a "happy ending" to his birthday celebration, Rancid Priapus or other cabinet members are ready, willing and able to step up. (And I apologize for that mental image).
