the noise is reduced from 160 db to 130 db. Enough to reduce damage to the ear but still plenty loud.

Library whisper – 30 db
Emergency vehicle siren – 115 db
Silenced .22 rifle – 116 db
Thunder – 120 db
Silenced 9mm pistol – 125 db
Dish breaking – 129 db
Jackhammer – 130 db
Silenced .223 rifle – 134 db
Silenced 12 gauge shotgun – 137 db
Jet taking off – 150 db
Non-silenced 12 gauge shotgun – 160 db
Non-silenced .223 rifle – 165 db

shots, like in movies. It's not like that at all. But anything that reduces harm to a shooter's hearing without being distracting or inconvenient, such as earplugs, is helpful.

and I can't even believe this is being debated in Congress. What exactly is the purpose of this, I can't think of a situation where this would be warranted or have any positives to it.

And how close are these readings? A lot of people say a suppressed handgun sounds like a pneumatic stapler, or nail gun. And the other issue is the silencer itself. How good is it? And where are you shooting? Some things absorb sound, some amplify, etc..
You have a breaking dish and a jackhammer at the same db. Does that seem likely? If distances are even?

there are truly silenced weapons but they are very specialized and not commercially available. A large factor in gun noise is the speed of the bullet - subsonic ammunition is required to make a gun silent.

Suppressors are sold over the counter in Europe - they are viewed as necessary to reduce noise pollution and hearing loss.

btw - my list shows a silenced 9mm at 125db

And yet they don't have the issues we have.
But how many people own guns there or, how many?

No impact on 60% of gun deaths which are suicides. Make guns harder to conceal. Don't sufficiently silence guns to make shootings undetectable.

..."The measure has received high-profile backing from the President’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr, who paid a visit to a manufacturer of suppressors in Utah, SilencerCo, where he tested its products. The company subsequently posted a 38-minute of Mr Trump Jr, shooting and talking to the company’s CEO, Joshua Waldron. Mr Trump Jr, and his brother, Eric, are currently trustees of the Trump Organisation and oversee the President's financial assets.
“I love your product,” says Mr Trump Jr, a keen hunter, who led an advisory for his father on the US Second Amendment, the part of the constitution which gun rights advocates claim gives them the right to bear arms.

“It’s just a great instrument. There’s nothing bad about it at all. It makes total sense. It’s where we should be going.”

The NRA strongly backed the campaign of Mr Trump, and its endorsement of him in March 2016 was the earliest moment in a presidential cycle that the group had offered such support."....
