1. What did Democrats have to do with this?

Apparently, the guy was a disillusioned Republican who became an active Sanders supporter and then voted for Stein. Not a Democrat among this range of political options.

I hope this marks the end of Democrats thinking we need to reach out to this constituency. I realize we're talking about a unique, disturbed individual here. But absent the violence even, we're not talking about people with consistent political philosophies..

a legitimate one, that is a good thing. Its not a surprise that you will find nut-cases(people feeling pushed too far and not having the right mental health support) among those disaffected by the current political system, and looking to outsiders, but as you admit, this is an isolated individual.

Suggesting that we shouldn't try to galvanize people behind issues that will give them a reason to vote democratic doesn't make any sense, and using this extreme example is cynical.

People who are all over the political map like this aren't susceptible to a rational or coherent political strategy and can't be counted on to be loyal party members. You might get them for a single candidate or a single cycle, as a protest vote ... but as active, reliable party constituents? Very few gains to be made there ... and thus a waste of precious resources.

Better to focus on our own and increasing their turnout in elections. We've got the numbers nationally; we need people to participate regularly and actively, and not just in presidential years but in midterms and in state, local, and special elections.

If it was a lone nut-job and you claim the GOP was not responsible for the deaths of 6 people at a Tuscon shopping mall - after a poster with "crosshairs" over her face then you have nothing to say.
If the Portland knife killer was not a product of #MAGA, and you still claim to be a proud anti-liberal Christian that's "taking back America" over "the sweet tears of Liberals", then you have nothing to say.

As it was, this guy was more anti-Clinton than he was anti-GOP. He blamed the current GOP for his "transformation" from a lifelong Republican to a radical.

Own up to the results of your own hateful speech, and don't play innocent at push-back when people don't put up with your boot on their necks.

Well. I think that this will cause the GOP to increasingly legislatively assault those that this shooter really didn't give a damn about.
