The Right tends to be made up, in rather high numbers, of people who believe that the answer to gun violence is to arm themselves. Right now, there are protests and counter protests going on where the Right and the Left are in dispute in public gatherings.
At this time, I suggest that it might be prudent to avoid such gatherings where the sides are disputing. Some on the Right may take today's shooting at a softball practice as a license to respond with lethal violence when confronted.
Wait a bit. Let this zeal cool down on the part of the Right. Already, violence has broken out at these protests and counter-protests. It's entirely possible that the Right will take their umbrage to a higher level in the immediate future.
Just a cautionary note, directed at prudent people.

(31,106 posts)Well before I say but, we have two things working right now, and you are mentioning one of them.
Trump, Putin and friends desperately want Americans shooting each other in the streets. The benefits to them are so overwhelming and obvious that I dont need to mention them.
At the same time, what you say is of course true.
Liberals must react to the desire of Trump and team to turn us into a dictatorship, somehow. We know their followers, supporters will be equally harmed but are too childish to see it so we have to do it.
Dilemma indeed.

(146,248 posts)is to regain control of legislatures and executive branches in federal and state government. That is where our energy should be going, really. If we simply react to today's events, and tomorrow's, we may lose sight of the larger goal, and fail to do what needs to be done to begin changing things.
Shouting back and forth between groups espousing extremes is going to accomplish nothing, and may only serve to encourage additional violence, which never works in our favor.

(1,129 posts)KGOP has purposefully made firearms easy to acquire and legal to carry
in an effort to indirectly intimidate and suppress the desire to protest /resist/ oppose / gather together etc.
KGOP are counting on the opposition to choose to STAY HOME at the first signs of violence... or potential for such.
At which point, the opposition effectively relinquishes their own individual rights...
thus, accomplishing the KGOP's goals for them.
Clearly,
We need to recognize the reality of ever present danger...
As well as the increased potential for violence in certain emotionally charged / confrontational settings.
Ultimately,
each of us must decide what is best for our own self...
