Someone opening fire with a rifle at an athletic field is indeed a bad thing.
But I thought I would post a frame of reference.

2. That tragic fire has been overshadowed here in the US

by another, more local, incident. We won't hear a lot about what happened in London, I'm afraid, as awful as it is. Sadly, there are buildings like that in every large city in this country. Sprinkler systems shut down, rather than being repaired. Doors to stairways locked to prevent unwanted people from coming into the building. There are disasters like the one in London waiting to happen almost everywhere.
