The cynic in me couldn't get behind this morning's Congressional "Unity" speeches.

If you simply listened to the WORDS coming out of Paul Ryan, I'd be surprised if anyone here challenged the message.

But nothing is going to cause lasting change when it comes to Paul Ryan. The events of this morning will not stop "Obamacare replace and repeal" or tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires.

The same goes for Nancy Pelosi's remarks following Ryan's speech. They were kind and gracious and appropriate for the moment.

And all I could think was "how long is this going to last?"

How long will the tightly-scripted, Presidential message delivered by Trump will dissolve into the next Tweet storm about "obstructionist Democrats?"

How do you balance all of this with Newt Gingrich blaming the shootings on Democrats? And how do you balance THAT with the fact that I have not seen ONE Republican rebuke him for the timing of his remarks or the remarks themselves? How do you balance this with the back-chatter about this being the fault of Kathy Griffin or William SHAKESPEARE?

It was a senseless, tragic event. I'm sure that every man and woman in that session this morning had a sick feeling in the pit of their stomach while thinking "It could have been ME on that ball field."

I felt a deep sense of sadness watching the "Unity" speeches this morning. Most of it came from being in the wake of one more senseless and brutal tragedy. But an equally large measure came from wondering how many of the people in that chamber looked in the mirror, evaluated what they are doing with their lives (as the lives of the American people that hang in the balance), and how many will begin to work FOR the people who elected them, rather than hobble them and plunder them to benefit the investor class.

Maybe I shouldn't have had those thoughts.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't.

I do not care any republican in congress.

The republicans will see it has a weakness by the democrats.

The republicans would be having a party if Democrats would have been the victim.

The way the GOP are so front and center on unity just rubs me the wrong way... This party will do nothing about gun control and has done everything in their power to not unite this country...starting with Trump's hate mongering campaign and the GOP falling in line with him and his lack of compassion for anything but himself...

The fact that we never heard from Trump about the 2 heroes of the Portland tragedy is beyond awful.

I do wish all the wounded a full recovery...maybe the GOP will now know what other gun violence victim's families are going through? Doubt it...

I think you recognize bullshit when you hear it.

I found it nauseating and hypocritical !!!!!!!!!!

The media coverage today has been so one sided.

There are 1000's of examples of hate mongering and many deaths caused by right wingers, but the media is silent today.

It is sickening !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
