Does anybody feel sorry for Trump?

I saw a video on the local news tonight of his address this morning after the shooting in Alexandria, VA.

Trump was struggling to read words someone else apparently had written for him, not struggling due to emotion, but struggling because he was having trouble reading.
At times he appeared to squint, trying to see the words, stumbling over them like some child asked to read a lesson out loud.

Why couldn’t he just come out before the camera, say a few words from the heart .....
Oh, wait. I guess I just answered my own question. Damn!

(He should probably lay off the tanning booth for a while too. He's got that orange glow set on high)

He's a narcissist. Narcissists and sociopaths don't feel things the way the rest of us do. Narcissists feel horrible inside, but since they are incapable of feeling empathy, compassion, or love, that "horrible feeling" is not what the rest of us feel when we feel horrible inside. They cover up that emptiness with ideas of grandeur, so they're not even aware of how they really feel.

IMO, he fact that you and I occasionally feel sorry for Trump means one of two things:

1. We have too much empathy (if such a thing is possible), or:

2. We were emotionally abused as children, which makes us feel sorry for abusive people.

And here I thought you were a sensitive person. Instead, you're someone who is proud of your insensitivity.

One of the things that are destroying this country is Americans buying into the right-wing rhetoric that says that that empathy and sensitivity are characteristics that deserve mocking and contempt. Trump is nothing but a culmination of that sick philosophy. Welcome to ignore.

Being blinded by other emotions can take one down a very dark path. Much would be the idea of hating spiny cactus, black widows and rattlesnakes. They are only dangerous when the unobservant lets themselves be entangled into such

He is deluded, insecure, unhappy, paranoid, envious, fearful, lazy, arrogant, and angry. So many negative emotions. He was born into wealth with a great many advantages, but what really has he accomplished? He is the object of ridicule and hatred worldwide. He is not a happy man. Yes, I feel sorry for him.

he's been successful on TV, and is now the president of the United States, but with all that he's empty. He requires constant reassurance of his own worth; he thrives on (indeed, requires) the applause of approving crowds; he demands loyalty and fulsome adoration from his staff; and he can't bear to be thwarted, contradicted or criticized. He collects media articles about himself and he can't even pay attention to written security briefings unless his name is mentioned. He doesn't give to charity. He's on his third trophy wife, who doesn't seem to like him much, but might be wondering when she'll be traded in for a newer model. How it must utterly suck to be so emotionally needy that your every waking hour is spent seeking the approval of others!

SAD.

All I can say is I'd rather be me with not much money, but good friends and family - people who seem to care about me - and a purposeful existence that doesn't depend on being fueled by constant flattery, than a person who's got money and power and nothing else. I'd feel sorry for such a wretched character if he weren't doing so much damage.

he doesn't appear to be particularly tortured by his obvious personality flaws and intellectual shortcomings, so I'm having a great deal of trouble summoning much compassion.

I would hate to go through life that limited, even with all the money in the world.

I have thought this since long before the election. I read sometimes he wears them, when watching TV, but I have never seen him with them on. Too stupid to realize how harmful not seeing clearly is. It is just part of the con job, that is no longer working.
