Checkmate

If Mueller is now investigating Trump for obstruction of justice, as is being reported tonight, how then can Trump go ahead and fire Mueller without plainly obstructing the investigation? It's a Catch 22--damned if you do, damned if you don't.

However if he does that, then Congress will set up an independent special prosecutor, and guess who they'll hire - Mueller! At that point Trump's goose is cooked because they have all the proof they need that he really is obstructing justice.

Trump needs to lawyer up and try to ride this out with a good defense. (Not by firing people who are doing their jobs.) That's the best he can do.
