WaPo lists Republican arguments with annotated rebuttals, but the rebuttals don't show on the page!

Unless you're using a wide-open and vulnerable browser with no defense against malicious code and annoying features that you don't want, this Washington post article, titled "The Republican response to reports of an investigation into Trump, annotated" will show you only the Republican talking points with no rebuttals whatsoever. The page looks like it's straight out of Fox News or Breitbart.

2. If you cick the highlighted parts, it does bring up the annotated comments.

If that is not working for you, it may well be that you have an ad bocker or anti-banner software activated on the site. If so, you'll need to go into it and deactivate for wAPO.

4. No, I don't need to do anything of the kind. I read WaPo all the time and have never encounted this.

They need to fix this. It's a common mistake to assume that if a web page looks right in your own browser then it looks the same in everyone else's browser.

It didn't seem intuitive but after fumbling with it, if you click on the highlighted lines, it will pop up an "annotation" box along the right margin (with a scroll bar) where you can read the commentary.

6. You're missing the point. I know exactly what they did and how to work around it.

... but I shouldn't have to, and there will be others who don't know browsers like we do, and they're going to be shocked at what they see coming out of the Washington Post.

7. Talking of the WP and ad blockers, anyone know how to get WP pages to work with Avast?

The only adblocker I'm running is in Avast (the free version). I've added "https://www.washingtonpost.com*" to the general URL exclusion list, and also to the Web Shield exclusion settings, but I still get pages from the WP saying they've detected an ad blocker and refusing to show me the proper page. Any ideas?

10. The thing is, your description above indicates it's still working great for you

(Firefox does not work for me on a site I use for work, so I'm not going to switch to it). But you got to see the list of Republican talking points, and when someone said you see phrases highlighted and clicking on them brings up the rebuttal, he didn't seem surprised - you just called that a "workaround". It's not - that's Working As Designed.

I thought you knew about several browsers and the blocks they implement, from your OP, but never mind.

12. Sorry, I wasn't clear. I managed to see the annotations only with unmodified Chrome and Edge.

... and then, only after jumping through the extremely annoying hoops that Washington Post attempts to impose on its readers.

I've been reading Washington Post for a long time with Firefox and NoScript, and gotten all of their real news without any of the annoying crap. Today, for the first time, I encountered a very poorly constructed web page designed with the unwarranted assumption that everyone uses a browser configured just like the designer's browser.

Rebuttals are effectively de-emphasized by the functionality of the formatting...

So, despite the article's stated intent of providing both sides of the 'arguments', WaPo is actually promoting the KGOP talking points by making their access passive and the rebuttal points access active.
