it worked for him. Not now. This is Big Government and they have more money, more clout, more resources and more knowledge than Trump could ever muster.

Psychological projection

Psychological projection is a theory in psychology in which humans defend themselves against their own unconscious impulses or qualities (both positive and negative) by denying their existence in themselves while attributing them to others. For example, a person who is habitually rude may constantly accuse other people of being rude. It incorporates blame shifting.

According to some research, the projection of one's unconscious qualities onto others is a common process in everyday life.

Republicans do this all the time.

Everything Trump accused HRC of in 2016 is something we know he did. When he talked about her character he was talking about himself.

This was in October. I am not a CT person but I sit here thinking about the Russians attempts to hack voter databases etc before the election.

he thinks of it in those terms, unfortunately.

I think he sees the world as whoever comes charging out as though they have the biggest balls, wins. He has described President Obama as weak, and while he can paper over that when he sees Mr. Obama, like at the inauguration and such, he still fundamentally feels that he is the more alpha male.

You can still be an alpha male and be insecure. In fact, I'd say that they often go hand-in-hand.

unencumbered by reality. In that world, you inflate the size of the inauguration crowd, and exaggerate your strengths, while minimizing your weaknesses. It's what got him through the business world in New York City, and we now see it displayed on a national, if not a world stage.

It's the self-delusion of the salesman, writ large.

thereby reinforcing their allegiance to Trump and his con: "that person criticized Trump, but Trump says that person is a liar, therefore Trump is being persecuted again with fake news!" -- it's an opportunity for them to double down and become even more tuned-in to his "vibe" if that makes sense.
