Trump's Tweets Are Based on Faulty Logic

He thinks they build support for him. Since some people retweet them and post favorable comments about them, he thinks they're a really, really good idea. Never mind that his minions are blocking negative comments as fast as they possibly can. Trump is like my 9-year-old beagle/basset hound, Dude.

In Minnesota, during the Summer months we have a thunderstorm once a week on average. Dude has a response to those thunderstorms that is a lot like Trump's tweets. Every time there is a peal of thunder, Dude barks loudly, while wagging his tail furiously.

The thunder stops. Then, a bit later, there is another loud peal of thunder. Dude barks, and the thunder stops.

Dude, with his beagle/basset brain, thinks that his barking causes the thunder to end. It seems to work every time for him, so he continues to do that. Again and again. He doesn't listen if someone tells him to stop barking. He is convinced that his barking makes the thunder go away. Dude is very proud of himself.

Dude is a dog. Dogs think in their own way. Trump is ostensibly a human being. Humans are supposed to be smarter than a beagle/basset hound mix. A recent list of the dumbest breeds of dogs has beagles as #1 and basset hounds as #2 on that list. So, if Trump is no smarter than Dude, what can that possibly mean?

However, I like Dude, and would never subject him to such a thing. I want him here to scare the thunder away.

Unfortunately, he seems to be completely unable to learn anything much. Now, he was four or five years old when we got him. I have tried many times to teach him basic obedience skills, but with absolutely no success at all.

"Sit, Dude!" He wags his tail furiously, but remains standing.

The only tricks he does is to gobble his food and try to negotiate another walk with us.

He is an absolutely good-natured dog, and does OK on a leash, as long as you follow him where he wants to go. He loves children and other humans, and is completely inoffensive and meek when he meets someone. He's a good dog. But stupid. Wonderful, but not bright at all.

The neighborhood kids love seeing him coming down the sidewalk on our walks and crowd around to pet him. He's a big, dumb goofball of a dog and even looks the part. Here he is, in a characteristic pose:

but the thunder he is barking at actually exists in the same physical reality we all inhabit. Twitler, on the other hand, seems to exist in some alternative fact based one. Just saying, I think Dude is the smarter one.

It's a case of post hoc ergo propter hoc, one of the most common logical fallacies.

To most people his tweets are embarrassing but they create a news story both here and on TV. Yes it might not be what most people think is good news but he doesn't seem to care about that, any publicity is good publicity.

Most of the charges he makes are what the dashboard believers hear all day every day. I mean, no one thinks he actually has an origin thought do they? He posts almost verbatim from that Repub talking points memo that was leaked and those points are constantly on air -both radio and TV.

Trump is President and got there using nothing but disinformation and false logic. There are enough people, willing to believe in his false reality, that Congress has not abandoned him so far.

Every tweet also goes into the echo chambers of the politically active false-reality believers where the echoes shore up their blind faith despite what the rest of the world is saying and believing. Those fake reality dwellers are ardent, angry, well funded and have scary international connections. These are dangerous times.

Yes the tweets may be his downfall, but in a worst-case scenario, they may be the downfall of something greater.

He just sits still and shivers during thunderstorms. We've tried everything, but nothing works. Maybe he'll learn that they won't harm him at some point.
