This quote suggests resignation has crossed Trump's mind

But Trump, too, is cognizant of the comparison to Nixon, according to one adviser. The president, who friends said does not enjoy living in Washington and is strained by the demanding hours of the job, is motivated to carry on because he “doesn’t want to go down in history as a guy who tried and failed,” said the adviser. “He doesn’t want to be the second president in history to resign.”

http://www.politico.com/story/2017/06/16/donald-trump-justice-department-succession-plan-239652

I suspect if he resigned the clamor for investigations of him directly would subside and he would mitigate the legal jeopardy he and his family are in.

Sat Jun 17, 2017, 02:01 PM

Prediction is not a synonym for normative:

reflecting the assumption of such a norm or favoring its establishment:
a normative attitude.

I predict the Miami Heat will not win the 2017-2018 NBA title. That certainly doesn't mean I favor such an outcome.

empirical = is
normative- ought to be.

Do you really believe if Trump was no longer president his perfidy would dominate the media?

It seems they are in such dire financial straights, they had to use the white house to attempt to remain solvent.

I doubt he'd do it unless he were impeached. Congress could force his wee, little hand....

He is responsible for his team.

Any good military commander would take full responsibility for his subordinates.

He is commander in chief, right?

Chain of command.

That is what maintains discipline in the military.

Shit rolls uphill, and then down again.

A "good" soldier does not want to do anything that would embarrass, or dishonor his superior.

Of course... there is absolutely no honor in the current administration.

None, zip, nadda, zero.

Just a facade for photo ops, and talking points for the deplorable base.

Each and every one of them is in it for themselves, as are the so called "donors" who put this jackass in our faces every day.

What goes around, comes around... eventually.

He was already in deep water and thought that being president woudl make him imune. Probably thought legal protections would also include things like the trumpft U lawsuit and the NY DA's investigation. Or else he thought he could shut down the investigations and no one would say anything.

Like how he thinks now that he's president all his business dealings are without conflict of interest. That's why he ran for president, if you ask me. He wanted legal protection and thought it was a figurehead job.

That stated he has enriched himself by at least $26 million dollars since the inauguration via foreign and US spending in his hotels and such.

Isn't this why the Ag's of DC and Virginia I think sued him over the emoluments clause a week ago?.

At least the lawsuit has been filed, if it sticks is another story.

Mueller is not going to suddenly stop doing his job just because Trump quits. Mueller won't be removed if Trump quits, either. There is no legal provision for stopping the investigation other than fully completing it. People who resign after breaking the law are still law breakers and are still subject to the application of justice, and this is as it should be.

This is way too big of an issue to be ok with that. Although it's true it may be something we have to accept. It's too soon to tell right now. I just hope that if it does happen it provokes a protest on the scale of the Women's March in January.
