The information I have might be wrong, but it appears a locked gate is the real reason this was not a successful mass shooting. I saw one report that said the shooter was not actually able to get into the ballpark due to a locked gate. As a result, he was shooting at the Congressmen from a distance. I am not sure the shooter was actually able to see anyone when he was shooting. He might have been blocked by the dugout.

1) I don't think scalise would feel that he was the beneficiary of poor marksmanship. His injuries are likely going to require significant therapy and has likely resulted in some permanent damage.

2) it doesn't require much skill with a firearm to massacre a bunch of elementary school students or unarmed people trapped in a crowded space, but I guess you can avoid being the butt of Caitlyn jenner's jokes if you score more kills
