"SNIP.............
Energy Secretary Rick Perry is cooking up a case to stifle further federal support of renewable wind and solar energy. Hes ordered a dubiously sourced staff study that is aimed to paint renewables as an unreliable source for the nations electric grid.
The study, due June 23, seeks to determine whether federal tax and subsidy policies favoring renewable energy have burdened baseload coal-fired generation, putting power grid reliability at risk. It is being spearheaded by Energy Department political appointee Travis Fisher, whos associated with a Washington policy group that opposes almost any government aid for renewable energy.
Fisher wrote a 2015 report for the Institute for Energy Research that called clean energy policies the single greatest emerging threat to the nations electric power grid, and a greater threat to electric reliability than cyber attacks, terrorism or extreme weather.
The Institute for Energy Research and its advocacy arm, the American Energy Alliance, has been the influential force in shaping Donald Trumps plans to dismantle Obama administration climate initiatives, according to Bloomberg News.

(37,981 posts)And greedy and dishonest and completely devoid of redeeming qualities.
The energy industry will develop and implement renewables despite the appearance of their preference for oil and coal. They are using their reticence as a stalling tactic until they can find a way to "own" the wind and the sun.

(1,474 posts)I know Rick Perry appears less than intelligent. Just an old redneck Texan's view of him but...
Rick Perry may even be dumber than Trump. Hard to imagine anyone could be that stupid, but I have observed him for years.
His stupidity is only surpassed by his greed and dishonesty. This man gives stupid people everywhere a bad name.

(19,143 posts)that Animal Husbandry degree really paid off for him! Apparently one of those sheep-skins qualifies you for being a Governor, and a Cabinet member. And me with my stupid degree in Social Sciences. What the hell was I thinking?

(1 post)but I take umbrage at the insinuation that a degree in Animal Science is a walk in the park.
I received my B.S. in Animal Science from the University of Connecticut in 1978. Here is a list of the courses I took (as far as my poor old brain can recall):
English composition 1
English composition 2
poetry
botany
zoology
ecology
parasitology
human genetics
anthropology
principles of communication
American history
philosophy and logic
general chemistry (2 semesters)
biochemistry
organic chemistry (2 semesters)
physics (2 semesters)
college algebra
trigonometry
calculus
diseases of domestic mammals
virology
comparative vertebrate anatomy
introduction to animal science
dairy herd organization (2 semesters)
animal reproduction
animal nutrition
livestock genetics
livestock production
livestock judging
dairy cattle judging
meats
forage crops
soils
food technology and safety
As you can see, Animal Science is heavy on the science. It is not four years of shoveling manure.
It would also be worth keeping in mind that many people with a background in agriculture are well acquainted with the way politics/government works. They are steeped in it from an early age. We may not agree with them, but do not underestimate them.

(19,143 posts)When I went to College (1968-72), Animal Husbandry (not sure if it's that's same thing as Animal Science?) was an Associate's Degree program. Anyway, I'm not putting down anyone's advanced education. I was merely stating that his degree is far removed from the normal requirements for holding political office.
And welcome to Democratic Underground! It's always nice to see newcomers enter the domain of sane, rational human beings.

(118,460 posts)Trump got the US out of the Paris Accord. She said climate denial was about not changing the distribution of wealth. To me that means the rich can't make any money of of wind and solar once people have leased to own and then own solar panels and what not. Then they get their power for free and there is no middleman between you and the sun.
