Going after moderate suburban Republicans is a waste.

After Handel's win tonight, I hope the Democratic Party will give up on the quixotic campaign to win over supposedly moderate, suburban Republicans. These voters might not like Donald Trump very much but they largely support the GOP's agenda, especially on economic issues. By trying to court these folks we risk alienating our natural base among working-class and middle-class people.

In my own personal experience this demographic is mainly concerned with tax cuts. They will never vote for the Democrats in numbers large enough to offset our losses among less affluent people who will feel alienated by our shifting right on economics and thus decide to stay home. The Democrats should focus their money and energy on winning back working-class swing voters and increasing turnout among the poor, the working-class and people of color.

But we have to make decisions on where to spend time and resources. I would rather put more effort and money into trying to get our natural constituents to come out and vote than spend an inordinate amount of time and money on getting a marginal number of affluent Republicans to cross over and vote for the Democrats.

I think we would get more bang for our buck if we concentrated more on less affluent voters since as a center-left party that is our natural constituency.

I totally agree.

While there are a few moderate Republicans who voted for tRumputin suffering from buyers remorse, the last poll I read had them still 72% behind their mango colored Messiah, even though he's done NOTHING for them since being installed into office. He's not ever getting that wall built. Those coal jobs are GONE for good. tRuputin's into paying the ruskies BACK for helping him monetarily, and into giving tax cuts to the richest 1% which which includes HIM and his family, billionaire friends. Too bad these folks don't KNOW that to give the richest 1% their tax cuts means taking THEIR health care away. Those in the south and rust belt and across this country who voted for tRumputin who aren't rich got played.

Too bad they don't see it, but good luck to us Dems/minorities and to THEM as many of us--not just those damn Dems--lose their health care which includes Opioid treatment for some of them who really seem to NEED desperately on top of needing health care to LIVE.

And why do you assume none of them live in suburbs?
In my area, home prices tend to be lower in many suburbs.

Also, have you forgotten about Montana and Omaha?
