we are in a strange unpleasant cycle. It is going to take time - and pain - to move through it.
There are myriad reasons, some obvious, some malevolent, for the country - the world - being where it is. So many factors - media, social networking, money, and worse - but this is not in general an "us" time - it is a "me" time. Politics are being flavored by it so clearly - our "president" is the prototypical "me me me me me" person; the percent of people voting, gerrymandering, me me me me. I've got mine, screw you. And fear - closely related - I want to protect "me" - the hell with you.
We here at DU are in a bubble of sorts - we of course resonate with the "us" - floating all boats, the win-win. This is simply not a good time. Yes, resist, work hard, vote.
But I fear that the shit is going to have to hit the fan - bigly - to wake people up, get them to turn off the hate radio, get them to turn off the vacuous reality TV and worse - get them to realize that for the most part - and at some basic level - we are all in this together - so we better the hell start to act and vote like it.
