High Temps Shut Down Flights

My sister and her husband are in Manchester, NH, visiting their grandchildren. They were supposed to fly home yesterday, but their flight went through Phoenix, so it was cancelled due to the high temperatures. Looks like things will be pretty much the same today. I haven't talked to them, but I did suggest that they change their flight and fly non-stop out of Boston, instead.

I don't know if they'll do that, but it's sure what I'd do. Heck, I'd never fly into Manchester anyhow. Boston is a much cooler place. I'd use that as my base, and rent a car to drive to Manchester. I dunno. I guess they are trying to save time, but that doesn't work out either. Non-stop flights are always a better choice, and you might actually get your luggage on the plane you're on.

Anyhow, for those in the desert Southwest: Stay inside where the AC is working.

Either way, their daughter and son-in-law could drive them to Boston and they could jump on a non-stop from there to LAX on either airline. I hope that occurs to them, because the same problem that cancelled their flight yesterday will cancel it today.

A guy's gotta be flexible, sometimes. My wife and I once flew from San Luis Obispo, CA to Bloomington/Normal, IL. That requires feeder airlines at both ends of the flight. We arrived in Chicago, only to find that the feeder flight to Bloomington/Normal had been cancelled. Oh, what to do?

As soon as we found out, we marched down to the car rental desk and were soon on the road for the two hour drive to her parents' home. The alternative: Wait in Chicago for a flight the next day? Not a chance.

People are funny, sometimes. When things don't go the way they planned, they don't look for sensible alternatives. Instead, they fume and worry and get all bent out of shape. There are always options.
