Gulf Coast DUers, Y'all ready?

Last edited Thu Jun 22, 2017, 11:20 AM - Edit history (1)

Goood Vibes & Prayers for protection for Ever'body.

I am packing my go-bag, more Family photos & momentos than clothing
Not that I expect to have to git.. but Ya never know.
Funny what is truly important, when things get real.

I have a strong need to make a big ole pot o' gumbo. Clean out the freezer, in case the power goes out..Extra spicy Gumbo, lots of seafood & fresh veggies.
That's goood Medicine. & will keep me busy.

South of Texas, the winds are picking up, & funny rain.. just "sprinkling" but big rain drops. We deal with street flooding alot, so that will likely be the worst thing.
Better go rattle my pots & pans. Stay safe Ever'body, & check in when You can.
You are ALL in my Thoughts. 💖

UPDATE: Not a rough storm, at all. We lost power about 1am, came back on about 5am. Light rain now. Streets aren't even flooded.
HOPE the storm peters out as it heads north & east. I am pooped.. from anticipation, I guess!

Looks like Louisiana will get the worst of it

(KPRC2, Houston) high tides, street flooding, winds...29 mph, gusts 39+. Nothing much till 1am.
Though I usually take weather forecasts with a grain of salt, I think we'll be okay around here, if people stay calm & use common sense.

I think I've been a bit anxious because it is early in the season, + being stressed out about other stuff.

Best wishes for Your Beaumont & Houston Family!

No extra risks! We need everybody in the resistance. And, on a practical note, I don't think FF45 has appointed a new FEMA head so if you need help, I'm not so sure you'll get it quickly. Sigh. Keeping my fingers crossed that you all stay safe and unharmed.

Nobody in the msm I've heard has said diddly about no one to head FEMA *OR* NOAA. Frankly, we're probably better served by Pres.Obama's 2nd or 3rd "leftovers" than any fools trump may appoint.

..so it's a concern. Mostly, I think we'll be fine. We've been through worse, before.. I am a bit unsettled cuz it's so early for a big storm.
I consider it a "practice run", don't You?

Lots of intermittent rain, varying in intensity but nothing severe. Not even much wind and all the flood warnings and tornado watches seem to be highly precautionary.

Flash flood watches, Rip Tide Warnings, Heavy Surf, tornado watches and a few warnings in counties along the coast. Expecting the rain to continue overnight and in to tomorrow.

We're laying low. No runs to the grocery store for anything. We have the essentials, so we're good. Hope the power stays on, as the humidity will be brutal. We have underground utilities but they connect out of our neighborhood to ABOVE ground lines. 🤔 😜 So far, so good. And Jim Cantore is not here!! Yay!

"Don't worry until Jim Cantore shows up."

I stopped and said "wait - I know that name. Isn't he the guy the Weather Channel sends to where...?"

We looked at each other and laughed.

He was a good boss. He didn't micromanage and he trusted us to be professional and do our jobs.

I expect a lot of people will be glad they have to build up off the ground in a lot of areas post-Katrina.

My favorite live stream was out of Bayou Blue LA this morning, a sweet Boudreaux of a man telling everyone to stock up: "Now, the liquor's all gone. You can't find any alcohol but they've still got plenty food."

My people. Gotta love 'em.
