(90 posts)Me and my family are all educated, but poor. The rich that refer to us as 'common' think that it is our fault that we are poor, that we are uneducated, are not aware of what is happening, or that we are taking advantage of the government.
Well I have to say that it isn't our fault, we aren't stupid, we are aware of what is going on, and we are not taking advantage of anyone.
I am one of the common people. And not only am I aware of what's happening, I am suffering firsthand of what's happening.

(28,151 posts)Even though the "unwashed" part isn't applicable like it was long ago, thanks to the wonders of modern plumbing.
I've got little more than nothing and do not care. I am healthy, happy and proud mom of two young adults. I've got great people in my life & feel pretty fortunate.

(1,569 posts)I do think the very idea that people are defined by their economic situation is dispicable, but of course struggling economically will always be more common than being rich. In reality, far too many of our "common" brothers and sisters don't have common compassion, common political sense, or even common decency. And some of the less common "rich" people do have compassion.
It isn't solely about money.
