bankrupt most of them. If 3 out of 5 nursing home patients are on Medicaid, it's going to devastate not only the patients, the patient's family, and the nursing homes themselves. they should write letters to every family who has a relative on Medicaid in their facility and tell them that grandma will be thrown out if this horrific excuse for a "health care" bill passes.

(5,754 posts)that's why it has to be renamed to the Grandma dies in your living room bill. Or something equally memorable.

(17,862 posts)All my Trump loving family did not have an issue with my grandmother going into a Nursing home under Medicaid (I handled all the arrangements and the interactions with Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, and the Nursing Home). She was in a very nice place for nine years. My aunt who had been caring for her in her home went to prison, and my mom got my grandma and brought her to Iowa for me to make arrangements for. Within three days I had to find a home (we were very fortunate in this regard), move her checking account (her only asset) to a funeral account, and make all the arrangements with Medicaid. I also had to deal with her creditors - some of which actually tried to sue her (non-stop calls to our house).
When she arrived she was a two person transfer to a wheelchair (no use of legs). Over time she also lost most the use of her arms and was nearly blind. I had to try to transport her in a Cavalier to get to the DMV for her photo ID (they tried to stop this because of time in state but eventually showed mercy). I don't know what I would have done if she needed to go back.
When she passed last year I received an asset recovery letter for nearly a half million dollars. I mentioned that our family received a half million dollars in welfare to them. They did not like me saying that.

(34,360 posts)they are. I don't have a problem with that at all, my problem is with people like your relatives who want to deny others what they took for granted. This law is going to devastate the Drumpfcultists. I just wonder if the satisfaction they got from "sticking it to that bitch and those whiny libs" will make up for the devastation that this will wreak in their families.

This will be real interesting.

(62,406 posts)if Granny can't.
Few people know about this and Medicaid has kept it from happening for the most part.
Joe and Jane Doe, Trump voters, will be shocked when they start getting those $5,000 a month bills.

(17,862 posts)It would be prudent to live in a different state than your parent and to not sign anything.
Such a law exists in Iowa. No law exists currently in Florida. My mom lives in Florida. Unlike my grandmother she will never live in Iowa for this reason.
Nothing like getting a $500K asset recovery letter form Medicaid to put the fear of God into you.
I am going to show the same care as my mom did with my grandma (not a damn thing). She voted for Trump - she can reap the whirlwind.
