Do not forget or minimize this action. So of course they're lurking here, looking for any weakness, any chink into which they can drive a wedge. Keep that in mind when you see attacks on our leadership. Nancy Pelosi has the power and experience that we need to stay in the game. Barack Obama will stand as one of the greats in America's history. You don't have to agree with everything they've said or done. But remember that they feared DU enough to take it down. They'd be foolish not to try to use it as a tool for their side. We shouldn't help them.

(8,090 posts)Republicans control all branches of government, states are rolling out regressive legislation, voter suppression is alive and well, etc. They're emboldened, not afraid.

(8,090 posts)are all that political. One night I took to Googling "cuk" and "Pepe" and young male hackers and again return to anti-social assholes who thrive on disruption.
Republicans in power care about nothing but exploiting land, labor and resources. And tax cuts for the wealthy. Those at the bottom are duped into believing that the "job creators" shouldn't be "punished for their success." How do we break through that mindset? I'm hoping Bryce in Wisconsin can break through -- army veteran and union worker. Send Paul "Kegger" Ryan to work the iron and Bryce to Washington! That message HAS GOT to resonate with the WWC; if not, I'm done.

(8,090 posts)I mean, I know Republicans have been gunnin' for the social safety net for decades, but it's here. Medicaid and Obamacare now, Social Security and Medicare soon after. I work in the "safe" (ha ha) healthcare industry and there's been quite a bit of buzz the past couple of days from those of us who pay attention; those who don't have been getting a lesson on what Rethugs are doing, whether they like it or not.
As someone who hopes to retire within the next decade, I know I'm fucked. But I won't let them win. Family, friends, neighbors, communities... we'll all have to come up with solutions to help each other. And all those who sit out elections need to get their asses to the polls!

been a lot of noobs here jumping on the bash pelosi threads. sure, plenty of longtimers are saying the same. the wedge is ours. the hammer is being wielded by the trolls.
we need to be at least 10 times as savvy about taking the bait as we are.
dont think we are some dark corner of the interwebs. we arent.
dont think that "they" dont know how we tear into election results. they do.
i wish admin would say more about the hack. i gotta think that the fbi is/has looked into what happened. in the context of everything else that the trolls were up to, that hack has to be significant.

(90,616 posts)Just to show they *could.* The more crap that gets uncovered, the more far-reaching it becomes, the less easy I am about our home here.
It is NOT "paranoia" when someone really is after you. Someone wants to dismantle our country from the inside, and we are part of our country.

One that was interesting however was one who had been a member of DU since 2003 (the same year I joined) but only had four posts.

(34,661 posts)Misinformation and out right lies have been on the increase in the last week. Notice the GOP themes seem to be,attack Hillary Clinton, and Nancy Pelosi, and oh btw,Obama let Putin attack the DNC Server. You just can't make this B.S. up. The Republican Focus Groups have come up these themes and Corporate Media is already cranked the spin machine.

(4,642 posts)seems to be the reason behind the attack. Putin and the republican fascists are to blame and will get punished one way or another.

They did not want us to write about election day problems or oddities at all. They cut us off at the knees to keep us in the dark as they sabotaged the election.
I agree with your post wholeheartedly!

(70,067 posts)would have absolutely been reported here.
i really want provisional ballots examined. not for the votes, but to see who was blocked from voting and where. figure for each provisional ballot, which is a hassle, how many more just walked away?
I wish all those "provisional" ballots all over those states that Trump won unexpectedly were examined and reported on.

(7,142 posts)for late breaking news. That's before I found DU. Today, Huff Post is useless. Rawstory and DailyKos and Truthdig, I go to. There aren't many sites like DU and it says volumes that enemies of our country, whoever it was, shut us down on election night. We need to fight like hell to protect what we have, I can't imagine losing DU, it's like recharging my battery when I get down.
Resist.

(37,648 posts)This is the largest, strongest Democratic Party forum on the internet. So whether it was Russia or an American pro-Trump group, they no doubt did it. No calls to arms, no telling people to get to the polls in such and such district, etc.
And yes, I'm positive they troll here.
As for Pelosi, she has her faults, like everyone. But she has a talent for rallying the Dems in the House to get behind a bill or not, and in defending Democratic Party positions. Party leaders are not supposed to be extremists or activists. They have a job to do that involves working with all Democratic Party national politicians and with a Dem. Party administration, whether she likes them or not. She's also seen it all and is pretty savvy. I don't think there's any getting one over on her or manipulating her. Very experienced.

(2,146 posts)Was DU able to track back the hacks? Did they track back to Ukrainian servers, for instance?
I agree with the premise - there was a concerted effort to disrupt and throw the election to the GOP and the attack on DU was part of it.
Now, instead of debating the whys, DU should find out who...

(90,616 posts)Iirc, the Admins worked with the authorities but could or would say nothing publicly. If you've watched enough Law & Order, you can probably guess why.

(2,067 posts)Let's be honest, this place would have been an absolute disaster on election night 2016. I lurked for many years before joining, and although this site has some of the most insightful and progressive thinking on the net, it is also one of the angriest websites I've ever been apart of.
Combine that with the fact that by early November we had pretty much convinced ourselves that it would not only be victory over our opponent but ANNIHILATION of him, and by that point we also had alienated many members as "trolls" who didn't share the optimism and demanded continued viligance and concern, and I don't think it's a stretch to say we would have pretty much self imploded on election night.
I think the break was helpful for everyone. Not that there isn't still a consistent angry tone here, but at least the rawest emotions of election night had been given many days to settle.
