Who In This Country Doesn't Need Health Insurance?....

I hear from the mouths of Repugs that it would be up to the person to buy their health care insurance.

I can understand where some people can't afford to buy health insurance and therefore don't - but doesn't everybody in this country need health insurance.

Besides the affordability aspect - not being able to pay for health insurance - what other reasons do people think they don't need healthcare insurance?

Even Mexico's health care system puts ours to shame.

need health care... the only ones who don't necessarily need health insurance are the very people selected for tax cuts...

there are people that can afford insurance but think they need cars, horse, campers, vacation, eating out and other stuff more. Most likely, like way I was in my 20s.

10. Healthcare should be a fundamental right in this extremely wealthy country, not for-profit business

As in Canada and countries in Europe, healthcare should be a fundamental right afforded every citizen of this country. It should NOT be a for-profit business from which millions are excluded because they can't pay the astronomical rates of private insurance that is not associated with the person's employer or another cost off-setting structure. Being a pool of one (or a pool of one family) does not give a person ANY leverage.

6. The only people who don't need it are multi-millionaires who can self-insure.

The only reason healthy, young people don't buy insurance is because they either out of carelessness, they can't afford it, or don't fully appreciate the risks and costs of medical issues they even healthy young people can easily face.

Even healthy, young people can get unpleasant surprises.

not insurance, but I suppose that doesn't fit into the narrative of how things work here in the U.S. where fulfilling basic human needs must enrich corporations and the investor class or they aren't deemed necessary anymore despite the human cost.

They really can self insure if they wanted to.

The people the Republicans speak of are most the people the Democrats called something like the "young invincibles", who they wanted to push to get insurance. The reason for that name is that they see themselves as invisible. They are young, strong and healthy - ans assume that is going to continue. In fact, in any given year, for the vast majority of them it is fortunately true. The problem is that some in that group will through an illness or accident suddenly be in need of so much medical attention that they can not afford to simply pay it out of pocket.

These people NEED insurance because they may well be one of the unlucky people who need it.

Very few people consider not insuring their car or house - even if they own them outright and no bank forces them to do so. Why? They could be the one for whom it would have been nice to have it in face of a problem.

"insurance" should be available as a supplemental (as in Medicare supplements) for people who want extra coverage....
and there could be "vanity" coverage available for upscale dental procedures, cosmetic plastic surgery
