proposals. Younger people should raise holy hell to be expected to still pay for people on medicare or whatever, if we don't get the same deal. It's all the older right-wingers (and some of our own) thinking they have theirs, so fuck everyone else, that makes this things fly. They need to be made to understand that if I lose my medicare, they are done as well!

It's also my understanding that the prescription drug "donut hole" coverage goes away for seniors if the GOP "funnel loot to the rich" bill passes. Then there are also the large number of us who couldn't afford a nursing home if we needed one. We might be older, but we're not safe by any means.

I wasn't planning on retiring for another 15 years anyway--I'm only 65. But even so, the country where I'm living wants €30,000 out of my pocket ($66,000 of pre-tax income) to give me health insurance, so if my US insurance disappears, if I get sick, I'm in bad shape.

They don't have any use for the sick, the poor, or the old. Medicare will be stripped down next and if you are only in your early or mid 60's you will almost certainly be affected if you or your spouse come down with a serious illness, as many of us eventually do.

Through them. Like you, I am on Medicare and my husband will be too on July 1. We are affected because we have three daughters, all with some pre existing condition. They won't be immediately affected, but I can not rule out it not being a problem in the future.

In addition, while I hope none of us ever need a nursing home, Medicaid, which funds it after resources are exhausted, is being cut.

The idea that ANYONE not in the top 1 or 2 percent could be impacted directly or indirectly is a message we need to get out. You and I are fortunate ones for whom things work at least now and we still care because what is being done is wrong. For those less altruist, the message should be that they might need the safety net being slashed some te in the future. All to give people with millions more money.

though I have a very god job, and I'm still pretty good at it. But there's two books I'd like to finish writing, and various other things I'd like to do while I can still put words together and function well physically. In my case, the math is whether I have enough saved to make it to social security; a year more on the job should do it.

Depending on where you live, health clinics will shut down. ERs will be flooded with cases that general practitioners should be handling. Hospitals and other rural medical centers will shutter their doors.

But hey, at least 1-10% of the population will have more money to offshore. So "winning!", right?

...or words and the red mist that descends over their eyes blocks further input. Give it up.

I Get what you are saying. We're personally comfortable, having saved nearly everything, but certainly not in the stratospheric bracket. We are about to give up the little house we've lived in for 34 years (paid off) and buy a bigger house in another, less costly, location. After I remodel the kitchen, it will be my dream home: single level, wide doorways in case we need accommodations, built in bookcases everywhere. It was love at first sight. It's scary to contemplate moving, in some respects because I've spent my whole life being risk-averse, having grown up poor.

There will always be risk -- even for you, and you know it on some level.

But we're Democrats, and there's a reason why we are. When it comes to class and income, our motto is *not* "I've got mine, Jack, so screw you." We worry about other people. I worry about my adult kids, specifically their health care. At some point they will need the safety net that is being shredded. But the thing about being a Democrat is we are concerned with everyone, not just our immediate families.

And boy, do I ever get that.
