Republican leaders praise Obama administration on trade talks

all those assholes longing for "bipartisanship" should be pleased.

edit: this is about the admission of Mexico, with whom I thought we already had a significant trade deal with.

Washington, DC - Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) and Trade Subcommittee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) today released the following statements in response to the Administration’s notification to Congress that the Administration intends to initiate negotiations with Mexico as part of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations:

Chairman Camp: “I applaud the Administration’s formal notification to Congress of its intent to have Mexico join the TPP negotiations. Mexico’s participation should result in even greater benefits to U.S. employers, workers, and farmers. The TPP talks are critical to establishing strong economic footing for the United States in the Pacific region and providing a counterbalance to China. I look forward to consulting closely with Ambassador Kirk and his team as we continue our domestic process for Mexico to join TPP.”

Chairman Brady: “I welcome the Administration’s notification of its intent for Mexico to join the TPP talks. Mexico is our third largest trading partner, and its participation creates an opportunity to further deepen and strengthen our economic ties as we expand the TPP’s breadth. Today’s action increases the value of TPP negotiations, which represent a vital opportunity to expand U.S. exports and create American jobs. I hope that the negotiations are concluded as quickly as possible this year so that we can begin creating jobs through expanded trade in the fastest-growing region of the world.”
