Jeebus help people without insurance.....

I had a Total Knee Replacement about 2 1/2 weeks ago.

Totals billed to my insurance?

$111,000 and some change. I was in the hospital one night.

My out of pocket? A little less than $2,000.

I weep for those who be facing that bill on their own.

Note: with "plan discounts," my insurance paid a little less than $35,000. Does anyone pay that huge sticker price?

course, but they can make life miserable for poor people. And that's assuming one can get a surgery like that done without cash up front, or the patient getting on Medicaid.

They wanted my share paid up front.

Fortunately, I can afford it. But for some folks, even $2K is a pretty big stretch. We have to do better.

If you had a bad hip or knee, you eventually didn't walk anymore. If internal organs gave out, you died. If you had cancer, you died. The list goes on...

Someone on Kos is saying that they know of people getting fake calls about getting insurance for $78 a month including dental and vision.
