Some interesting points in this article. Worth a read.
----
If you announce now, the next two years become a debate between you and Donald Trump. You become the shadow president.
Youve earned it. You deserve it. You regret you didnt run last time. Because youd probably be president right now. Beating Hillary in the primary would have been tough, but if you had, you sure as hell would have had a compelling economic message in the general election in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin for those lunch bucket voters you know so well. And, therefore, would have won.
Every elected Democrat with an ounce of ambition is positioning themselves to run. But it's just creating 100 Davids against the one Goliath in DC. There is a lot of potential talent coming up through the ranks, but if youve got an old Babe Ruth hanging around the locker room, put him on the field. More importantly, a Biden candidacy now could eliminate, at least temporarily, the emerging rift between progressives and centrists. Biden has respect and credibility from both camps. And he could keep that fight from spilling over into a civil war that could kill chances for 2018 and 2020.

(37,748 posts)No upper age limit on the position.
Though I'm certain the arbitrary, made-up limit you would impose is predicated on objective evidence you'll provide for us...
Else your statement is little more than another fortune cookie.

(16,368 posts)Cute how the author, a GOP loony bird, casts all the potential 2020 Dems as lightweights. I remember the same stuff wassaid about President Obama by thatcrowd leading up to his announcement in 2007.

(5,499 posts)And start raising money. And be a constant critic but bow out in the primaries. Or if he has really gained traction, go ahead and run. I don't care who the president is as long as he is a reliable democrat. Joe passes that.

(40,416 posts)Only an utterly mad person wants perpetual presidential campaigns!!!! Witness Drumpf...
We have a lot on our plate right now, specifically midterm congressional seats and tons of local offices, which (if people were paying the least amount of attention) the GOP currently holds firmly in their hands.
For some warped, mad reason some people choose to focus solely on the White House, as if nothing else matters. Well, right now the White House does not fucking matter. We'll get our next say on that in 2020.

(14,853 posts)... smears between now and 2020.
Then drop out as other Democrats run for President, presenting themselves to more open minds.

(65,172 posts)Personally, I like Joe. But his comments after the election wouldn't be good for a more unified party next time. Although he has moved left in his recent rhetoric, he has some pro-bank votes in his past and wouldn't be seen as an agent for change. Trump or whichever idiot is President in 2020 (assuming we don't get to a Democrat in the succession) would tie him to the past. He also has a reputation for gaffes. I think we can do better.
