Cub fan and I'm super disappointed in this. I know the whole Ricketts family connection to the RW...but I still wanted to see some backbone.

Cubs only a .500 team, Schwarber sent to the minors, back up catcher released for throwing a hissy fit or something, pitching still mediocre and hitters regressing after all having career years in 2016.

If they were in any other but the NL Central, they'd probably be out of contention about now.

with the presidential election results. You could feel the mood go up and the mood go down in my city.

Most of the owners of the Cubs backed trump. One of the sisters in the family is an out lesbian lawyer who worked on Hillary's campaign.

I think the ricketts being close to trump demanded that they go back.

The fun of the season, the excitement of the playoffs and then absolute euphoria from the World Series win was a dream come true. I couldn't wait for election day for the dream of a smart, capable woman to become President. My euphoria lasted those few wonderful days, then the shock of 60MM+ Americans voting for an immoral, incompetent, woman hating, racist, pervert pedophile over a smart, competent, experienced, woman who worked her entire life for social justice took the wind out of my sails and it hasn't come back.

I read that a couple of players said the Ricketts asked them to go and Joe Maddon said when having an opportunity to respect the office and the building, it was the thing to do. He also mentioned a long friendship from childhood with Lou Barletta, a Repug congressman from PA and that he would appear before a luncheon of Young Repugs arranged by Barletta. Joe is so non-judgemental and laid back, it never occurred to me that he could be a Rethug and this doesn't prove it but now wondering if that is a possibility.

The sister, Laura Ricketts, is lesbian who was a big Obama supporter. The brothers and dad are big rightwingers.

Laura push for an Obama White House trip; the brothers wanted a Trump White House trip; hence two trips.

You can't hardly blame them for double-dipping the presidential visit.

Even so, as others have mentioned, this could well be grounds for another curse.

What can I say? As a Cardinals fan, that would work for me. I rooted for the Cubs to win it all last year but I don't expect that softness to return anytime soon. I'll be long dead before another hundred years passes.

When they went in November, they took everybody, from Chicago, on private charters, including office staff.

This time, the Cubs were in DC anyway, playing the Nats.

A handful of players went, but perhaps they would not have if it meant flying there from Chicago a second time.

Many grew up with a silverspoon in their mouths, so there is a sense of entitlement and "mine". In addition, it's more likely they grew up in a republican environment, really didn't pursue academics, but used college golf as a launching pad to the tour, and so they never outgrew their early exposures to world view.

Secondly, the sport is one against the course, so there's no team, no sharing, it's strictly about the one person doing it. I think that creates some of the libertarian streak that permeates the pro tour. I think there is more libertarianism than social conservatism out there, which would include your "taxes" thing.

And politics aside, the silverspoon thing makes a lot of them brats and tools.

On Edit: And don't even get me started on Mickelson.

Growing up on the South Side made me a natural born Cub hater, but after living in Colorado for 30 years, I was actually able to pull for them last year. This year I have been indifferent.
Now I can go back to hating them with a passion again and things are getting back to normal again.
